I need to run! Jules thought, panic rising in his chest. He knew he wasn't strong enough to face Kadenn right now. If he didn't get out of this manaless zone quickly, he would lose for sure.
But before he could even take a step back, a sudden instinct made him tilt his head. A blade slashed past, just missing him.
What? Jules realized with a shock that Kadenn was already in front of him. He had dodged the attack purely thanks to his battlefield-honed reflexes.
He's trying to kill me! Jules thought, his heart pounding. This wasn't the Kadenn he remembered. Every strike was aimed at his vital points, deadly and precise.
"Falcon Blitz!" Jules shouted, leaping back as he activated one of his Spell Rings.
The surrounding field might have been drained of mana, but Spell Rings carried their own stored supply, allowing him to cast even here.
