The girls froze at the loud noise.
Ashley tiptoed to peek down the stairwell.
"The coast is clear," she whisper-yelled.
We sighed in relief.
The last thing we wanted was to get caught red-handed when we didn't even do anything in the first place.
"I thought you said the door was locked," I snapped at Summer, standing straight.
She took a step back, and murmured, "It was."
"Yeah, it was," Heather agreed.
The pain from before slowly went away as butterflies riled up in my stomach. I rested my palm on my belly and took a deep breath. The simple action calmed my nerves and the fluttering stopped.
"Are you okay?" Ashley questioned, stepping towards me.
I bobbed my head. "Yeah, I'm fine."
The others glanced at me but said nothing.
"Well, since the door is open we can get to Nancy Drewing," Heather chirped.
Summer snorted. "Nancy Drewing?"
