I paused at Adam's frown. "If you die, then your parents will still be sad. Maybe more so than when you're alive. You'll take away their hope. Their sadness may even cause an effect on the coming baby. It would be so bad that they would get scared of losing another child and don't love her enough. Or they forget to love her because they're busy mourning you."
"They're sad now," he intervened. The pulse in his neck quickened.
Again, I waited until he was calm before I continued, "Yeah, they're sad. Any parent would be sad. Tell me, if it was any one of your parents who were sick, wouldn't you be sad?"
Adam shrugged but answered nonetheless. "Of course, I would be sad. What kind of question is that?"
A smile curled my lips at his spice.
Gosh for a sick kid, he did have spirit. I wondered how he often acted when he was well.
