I awoke to Kyle breathing in my neck. His steady breaths sent tickles down my spine. I bit into my bottom lip to prevent a laugh. With caution, I tried slipping from his arms.
He groaned. "No."
I froze. He pulled me into his chest and held me tighter. I sighed and laid there, waiting. This was nice. Just us two, being together without the weight of our town on our heads. Maybe we weren't meant to be together but this made everything else seem like a lie.
"What time is it?" Kyle asked. His chest vibrated against my back with the words.
I tried looking for the clock. However, it was positioned on the wall behind us.
"I'm guessing it's late," I sighed.
He said nothing else but held me.
Then, he groaned. "We should get going."
Though he said those words, he still didn't make an effort to release me or get up. I said nothing and enjoyed his struggle.
