When I opened my eyes Aunt Lucile was sitting by my bed in that stupid rocking chair she loved so much. My body was still numb. I was in temporary paralysis.
"You're still healing," she said. Her voice was soft and tender. It was nice to hear.
A smile curled my lips. At this moment, she reminded me of Mom. How whenever I got a bruise or had bad injuries, she would sit at my bed or sing to me. It was something I loved as a kid. As the clock ticked and the years passed by, it wasn't so glorious. Her singing and nurturing were rewarded with whining and groans. Now, all I wanted more than anything was to hear her voice. Just once.
"Miranda called a meeting," Aunt Lucile announced. "When I left to go to town, that's what I left for, the emergency High Council meeting."
A sad smile brought a cloud over her face. I squeezed my eyes shut to block out the look. This was not what I intended to happen. Brianna was going to run away. She needed guidance.
