The place was quiet. Too silent. I peeked through an eye to survey what was going on. People were standing over me. My eyes drifted closed. Where was I? A chill caressed my skin and I relaxed into the soft padding of whatever was beneath me.
Carbon dioxide parted my lips. Then, it happened. The incident from earlier flashed through my mind like a thunderbolt. The screaming, the fire, everything came rushing back. My eyes flew open and I pushed up, gasping for air. All the pain and heartache from before accompanied it with intensity. It was as if I was the one who had been burnt alive.
The fluttering in my stomach came to life. All my emotions went on haywire. I needed to let it out the way it wanted to. However, I couldn't be alone. It was too much. Loneliness clawed at my insides. Hands touched me. Voices got louder.
Oh, my, it was them. The shadows. They were here. Oh, God, no!
A squeal was ripped from my throat. "Get away from me. Getaway."
