The world was a harsh place. Our lives were twisted, and we faced obstacles to make ourselves better. Mom's words every time something bad was thrown at us. Each complication was different. One was the Dire Witches forming allegations to spellbound all the superior creatures of mankind. Then, it was the outburst of diseases, killing humans, and witches. After which it was parents and their overbearing rules. Now, it was a past love, willing to milk me dry.
Through every setback, we got stronger, braver. What Mom forgot to mention was there was a price to pay for the victory. For every up there was a crazy down. We lost a part of ourselves. We lost our way. Some, like Scarlet, lost their innocence. Others lost themselves. I had fallen into that category.
The reflection in the mirror was nothing but a stranger. He was not someone we were proud of, but something we dreaded.
