At my comment, Summer's yapping ceased. Brian waved away his friends with a curt nod. They must have picked up on something because they fled the scene. Ignoring us, Brian strolled to his car, unlocked it, threw his bag in the back seat, and got in behind the steering wheel.
"This is not happening tomorrow, " I declared aloud.
I knew he was a man with urges. The Lord knew being a vampire brought along a stronger libido, but he could release those urges on his time, not mine. His lecture ended hours ago, so he should have been the one who was waiting on me.
We all packed into the vehicle after him. Buckled in, he drove off the school premises.
Summer cleared her throat. "Okay, we—"
"I just have to ask, was it worth it?" I intervened. My glare aimed at the side of Brian's head.
He licked his lips, black contacts never filtered from its task: watching the road. "Don't ask questions you don't want to hear the answers to."
My head bobbed. "Wow."
Tall fingers raked through his hair. "Before you go all crazy Sire on me, just remember Summer won't survive a crash."
For effect, Summer's heartbeat accelerated.
Real smooth, Brian. Real smooth.
Another shuffling came from the back seat.
My fingers pinched the bridge of my nose with a sigh. "What is it, Summer?"
The swiping of pages and the constant tapping of her pen joined the vigorous beating of her heart. "Ah, I was wondering about the Advisor thing."
Again?
More shuffling joined the other sounds.
"I don't want an interview. I won't be able to see how they would be able to handle anything within five minutes. I want at least a whole day with each." If I hadn't answered her now she would have asked again.
The sound of scribbling echoed in our ears. "Okay, like trial runs."
"Right."
Her large gate came into view. "I'll have it arranged and let you know the details."
"Okay."
The vehicle came to a halt, and she gathered her things. Out the door, she went with, "See you tomorrow, " thrown over her shoulder.
"I have a candidate in mind for your Advisor. She's efficient and well-rounded. I can let you meet with her tomorrow. What do you say?" Brian enquired when he drove back onto the road?
I ignored him as he did me.
A few minutes ticked by before he snapped. "Why must you always have to prove a point? Can it be so hard to follow one simple rule? What's so great about playing the big bad wolf? Isn't it tiring?"
Oh, no, he did not.
My fingers were folded in fists on my lap. "This would be the part where you would shut up before that tongue of yours go missing."
The muscles in his jaw ticked, but instead of lashing out, he obeyed and kept quiet. The remaining journey went by in silence.
As soon as the car was parked in the garage, he swiveled in his seat. "Let's skip the part where we argue and it turns out into a huge fight; where I'll maybe get my ass kicked. And, let's just apologize and make up."
I never looked at him nor did I respond. I also could not leave the vehicle either.
"I'm sorry I ignored you and behaved like a total ass." He rested his index finger on my cheek and used it to turn my head to look at him. Then he leaned in closer and went on saying, "Most of all, I'm sorry I left you waiting while I made out with a hot chick."
Ugh. He got a glare for that one. Can he be any more of a jerk?
My fingers found the doorknob.
He arched a brow. "Are you kidding me?" He pressed the lock button on the side of his door before whipping back around to me. "Aren't you forgetting something?"
I folded my arms across my chest and slumped back on the seat. "Apology accepted."
His eyebrows shot almost to his hairline. It quickly vanished and was replaced with a glare. "Stop playing. I'm being serious."
No kidding. Who said I wasn't? "Are you trying to get on my nerves?" I fired back.
He sighed. "Come on, aren't I your favorite person in the whole wide world?"
As if.
He pouted his lips, batted puppy dog eyes, and whimpered.
Ugh. Why was he so cute?
An exasperated sigh left my lips. "I'm sorry I pissed all over your ego in front of your friends. You are a great leader and I should not have done it."
Convincing or not, with each word uttered, a smile widened his lips. "That was better." Black eyes were filled with pride. "Can I kiss you?"
"Gosh, no!" I turned my head away. "Let me remind you, you were the one who had someone else's tongue down your throat several minutes ago. Now, unlock the door before I break it off."
He slouched in his seat. The click from the doors being unlocked came after. "I know I never should have asked you," he grumbled.
"I'm glad you realized that." I grabbed my bag before departing the vehicle.
"Yeah, instead, I should have taken it," was his comeback, a cocky smirk on his lips.
"And, my fist would have kissed your face." My fist was shown as an illustration.
He hissed his teeth while I slammed the car door. The smirk traveled to my face and was replaced with a frown on his.
"What the fuck? Why'd you have to take it out on my baby?" He got out of the car to survey the damage.
"Maybe you should have thought of your baby before you ran off your mouth."
He narrowed his eyes at me.
I flipped him the middle finger, and he grumbled something under his breath while staring at his car.
I shook my head at his behavior.
Men and their cars.
At least I got one score while he got none.
I placed an approval tap on my shoulder. A smile broke out on my lips while I left him and went inside.
