Chereads / The Midnight Assasin / Chapter 28 - New Stranger

Chapter 28 - New Stranger

Emerelda stood up quickly and started to run from the hallway. She heard steps starting to emerge from the dining room, everyone yelling to check everywhere. Emerelda silently cursed and headed straight instead of going downstairs. If she went down, there would be a chance they would notice her. Her darn red hair gave her away; the first Princess in a hundred years to be born with red hair.

She ran straight, running as fast as she could. She looks behind and heard someone arriving on the second floor she was on. She looks left and right and all were doors. Ahead there was another staircase, however she didn't know where that would lead her nor did she have time to get there before someone saw her.

She opens a random door and got in. She closed the door and sighed. She starts gathering her breath before she made her next move. She closed her eyes, listened to her breathing slowing down then opens her eyes.

In front of her was a young man.

He sat on a small sofa that faced the window. In fact this was a bedroom she entered. A large wood bed, a small desk, a sitting area near the window, and a bathroom door closed. The young man was reading, a book in hand as he stared at Emerelda.

The golden hour sun seeped through the window, making everything on its way gold. The man was someone about her age, probably a little older, mostly likely nineteen. He had a caramel skin tone, the sun making his skin glow almost. His eyes were a deep brown hazel, large with thick lashes. He had curly dark hair, some parts glowing brown from the sun, which was combed back although a strand escaped and fell to his forehead. He wore an elegant suit, a light chocolate brown coat, a dark brown waistcoat, and a white shirt underneath. His trousers were brown as well matching his coat.

He opens his mouth however Emerelda dove for the bed and went right under. She crawled under to the middle and waited. She watched as he stood up and starts heading to the bed slowly. Then the door burst open and he stops.

Black shoes were all that Emerelda saw. Whoever it was hesitates and paused before stepping in when he saw who was inside.

"Oh! Mr. Thomas, what an odd surprised." It was Apostle Michael she recognized.

Mr. Thomas?

"Good evening." Mr. Thomas replies.

"I thought I saw someone stepping in." he steps inside the room, "You see we were having a meeting and Mr. Leonard had mentioned that there were two people from the outside listening."

"Oh?"

"Yes," he starts to step closer to the bed, "I thought I saw her. Has she come in here Mr. Thomas?'

A pause, then, "No, she hasn't actually. And I'll like to keep it as that. This is my privet bedroom that is."

Apostle Michael stopped walking, "Oh, I see. Well I apologize for the interference and introducing your privacy. I wish you the best evening Mr. Thomas."

"Thank you."

Apostle Michael stepped back, stops and probably to Emerelda's case scanned the bedroom then finally turned around and head out the door. Mr. Thomas closed the door behind him and Emerelda let go of a breath she haven't thought she was holding.

"You can come out now; I assume he went down the stairs by now." He calls.

Emerelda was in fact waiting. She hesitates then finally crawled out. Mr. Thomas stood with arms crossed in front of the door. He was looking confused, and curious as she stood up and dusted herself.

"Thank you," she said, "I am in your debt."

Mr. Thomas tilts his head, "Are you really Princess Emerelda? The papers said that you left the city."

Emerelda bit her lips, "The papers aren't always correct."

He took a step towards her, "I can now see that." He raised his eyebrows, "Why are you here?"

She was taken back. She wanted to escape, although he was blocking door. Intentionally. He was as tall as Emmett. He had the same lean figure of Emmett; however when he crossed his arms Emerelda could see the muscles right underneath. Up close Emerelda could see the high hardness of his jaw, and a small diamond earring on his left ear.

"That isn't your business." She frowns crossing her own arms.

"It is if it means lying for you...unless you're trying to break the Judas group."

Emerelda clenched onto her elbow, "No, I'm not."

"Hmm," he came closer, "Are you working along with my Father?"

"You're Father?" She questioned, "Mr. Thomas is your Father?"

He looks uncomfortable, "Yes, my adoptive Father."

"Ah, that made sense."

His hazel eyes narrowed down at her, "What is that supposed to mean? Is it my skin tone?"

Emerelda blinks, "Of course not" she shook her head, "I would never judge base on that."

He smiles, "I was only kidding. I only wanted to see your reaction."

She rolled her eyes, "Well you have your answer."

"Are you here to destroy the Midnight Assassin?"

She looks behind her, and lo behold was a tree right in front of the large window. She looks back at Mr. Thomas and he was looking at the window behind her as well.

"Yes I am," she answered, "I am and I would."

He smirks, "Determination. I supposed we have the same goal."

She steps back, "Really? Well, that is great news I have heard all day today."

"We should work with one another." He took one step forward.

Another step back, "Work with one another? What is it that you could prove your loyalty?"

"Loyalty?" he scoffs, "My Father attends the meeting for these insolent people! The Judas group and the Midnight Assassin are nothing more but a threat to society. I'll like to stop them from hurting more people."

Emerelda knew well enough he wasn't lying. In fact he hated every single member, especially the fact his Father had to join with them. He doesn't blame his Father as his Father only joined simply for insight information.

Emerelda kept backing away, "Alright." She said. It would be better to communicate though him then Mr. Thomas. An ally was important during these times, "Fine. We could use someone like you."

He looks back at the window then at Emerelda, "You're not really going to use the tree are you?"

She smiles, "It's my only way. Right now your manor is crawling with members from the Judas Group." She turned her back at him and quickly heads to the window. She found the latch and threw it open.

"Wait!" he calls.

Emerelda looks back and the spring wind picked up. Her maid cap escaped from her head and flew outside. He stopped walking towards her as if he got stricken with something.

Emerelda pushed strands of her hair away, the dagger in her sleeves picking her skin. "Yes?"

'She's gorgeous.'

He blinks as if he came from a trance and shook his head. "Uh," he closed his eyes, for a moment and finally opened them, "How would I find you?"

"I'll find you," she smiled as she started to climb on top the window.

"Should I not come to you?"

She measures the distance between the closest branch and the window she stood on. She could do this, she'd done it before.

Emmett had supported her.

She could do this without him.

"When the time comes, you'll see me again." She looks back and he was right below her, "There's no need to worry." She answered his thought.

He looks back at the tree, "I'm not too worried." He replies. His hazel brown eyes look up at her, "This isn't my bedroom."

"Oh I know. Your room would be much bigger." She laughs.

He smiles revealing white pearls, "I only wanted you to be informed therefore you wouldn't climb the wrong window."

"I wouldn't bother to climb a tree for you. I'll simply knock on the front door."

He grins, "Confident. I simply fancy confidence in females."

Emerelda leans down, a grin on her lips, "You're a flirt aren't you, Luther?."

Luther's eyes grew large, "How'd-"

Emerelda turned and took a deep breath, "Until next time, Luther!"

She jumped.
