Now came a series of a worried Chris. Not even his daily does of alcohol or women would calm his wits down. Not only was he stress by the threat of destruction that was heading their pack's way but also about Helix's recent behaviour. Helix had shamelessly ignored all of his duties. All he did was drink whiskey and sit next to the boy. And honestly, Chris held zero hope that the boy would survive. The chances of a human surviving the bite was second to none.Even were-dire wolves would die. Thirteen men and women had after all died trying to be his beta. That too they were were-dire wolves. And by his I mean Chris' dear readers.
And soon Chris wondered back to the room where the boy and Helix were. His tendency to worry about Helix seem to be getting worse than before.
"What do you want?" Helix curtly asked without even sparing Chris a glance. There seemed to be a certain mood stuck between hostility and worry in the room.
"I think you should take a break. Staring at him wont wake him up." Chris replied without even thinking. Thinking didn't suit Chris most of the times. Not when he set his teachers car on fire nor when he demolished his family home in England.( It is still under repair.)
"I have alcohol." Chis declared loudly with a smile spread all over his face.
"So do I." Helix answered downing down his whiskey in a quick gulp.
"Mine is better."
"Which year?"
"1787."
"Mm, you really now me well."
"I raised you you bastard!" Chris laughed. And true he did. Their parents died when Helix was eight and sixteen year old Chris had to raised his brother. That was fourteen years ago and helix now a walking disaster. Chris nudged Helix
"What?" Helix asked in a dry tone noticing Chris' green eyes on him.
"So what's really going on with you?" Chris finally asked. As he poured Helix a full glass of whiskey. Chris then look at the remaining in the bottle before deciding to down it down. Helix's drinking habits clearly came from Christopher.
" I found her ." Helix finally let out before taking a sip of the drink. His eyelids slowly closed as he sighed," Before the whole accident happened i saw her. My mate."
"What happened?? Was she someone you knew??" Finding ones mate is one of the things that dire-wolves spend half of their lives doing. And sometimes more than half.
"No you idiot."
" Well if you don't tell me then how the bloody hell am I suppose to know what happened. Did she say that she didn't want to keep the bond or what??"
"No. Hell she didn't say shit. When she saw me she bolted right out the door and into the crowd like I was some kind monster. "
"Technically speaking the humans call us monsters."
"Let a man console himself you reject pig of society."
"Says the scoundrel that can't even speak to people."
"For your information she is not human. She's one of us ."
" What rank?"
The room was filled with momentary silence.
"Omega." Helix muttered.
"Huh?"
"I said omega you bloody fool!"
The silence grew more and for a while none of them was willing to break it.
"Well lucky you. You like petite women don't you?"
"And who lied to you about that load of crap, huh? Was it mother or the alcohol in your brain?"
" Well let's just blame it on the alcohol, shall we?"
They both laughed. Something that they hadn't done together for a long time. And maybe it was something they needed. The stress had began to compile slowly by slowly. Soon Helix would be off again to take down the increasing number of hunters approaching their den while Chris would have his hands full trying to investigate where the so called hunters originated from.
Now dear readers you might think that their kind might have been fighting with hunters for a long time but that is absolutely false. You see unlike the lower and weaker were-wolves, were-dire wolves have stay hidden in the shadows without interfering in the lives of humans. They would only go out to search for the mates, which in few rare cases would turn out to be other than were-dire wolves. That's why hardly anyone knows of their existence and there is no record of them in history.
" What are you gonna do about her?" Chris asked trying to pry more out of his brother
" Well, I should at least find her first ." Helix mumbled.
Suddenly the door swung open and clerk rushed over towards Chris and whispered something into his ears. The muscles on Chris' forehead began to fold in due to the tension causing him to frown. Chris slowly turned his eye towards Helix with anger and sadness in his face.
"How many?"Helix asked in a solemn voice. Agitated, angered and depression filled his face. A wave of emotion that Helix truly hated. Yet here they were, consuming him.
"Three, one of them is Vangaurd." The glass in Helix's hand shattered in an instant. It's shards falling everywhere.
"How did he die?" Helix asked. The question had no direct persona to answer. However Clerk took it upon himself to answer it. He, after all was the one who brought the news.
"We couldn't actually pin point how he died. We took him to the doc and there was no sign on how he died. Except..."
"What?" Helix asked his anger getting worse by the second.
"There was residence of magic on him."
Helix slowly stood up and grabbed the bottle of whiskey from Chris' hand and left. Chris who was holding his breath this whole time sighed. The issue was getting worse. It seems that the situation was not as simple as he thought it was. The Pride family hardly mixed with witches. There were only two stories of witches in his family. The witches of the Greave who according to their parents gifted the protection barrier around the house to the Prides and lastly Twilight. The witch that Chris wanted to completely forget
"What should we do?" Clerk nervously asked. The deal was that the pack respected Chris as their leader but the revered Helix. This is because even though they are both Alphas, Helix has the power of intimidation. He could have easily fought Chris for the seat of pack alpha but he didn't. Instead he just let him continue ruling the pack without causing a lot of issues. Chris is excellent as a leader but pathetic as a person. He had no sense of feeling. The only one who had a place in his heart was Helix. The fear Clerk felt for Helix was never hidden.
"First of all let's find out the witches that the magic belongs to. I have a couple of witches in my school. I can start there. "
"How can you find that out?? It not like magic has a scent."
"Every type of magic has a distinct scent to it. Most don't know this but you can smell the trail of magic just like body odour. For now cancel all of Helix's missions until he calms down. We can not afford a blood bath now. His anger is worse than the wrath of gods."
Clerk shyly nodded and left.
*******
Helix sat down next to the unconscious boy. The boys eyelashes flattered slowly. He was fighting to live. That was good. He sighed . Vanguard was dead. They were going down one by one and soon someone will come after the unconscious child in front of him. The boy must be around fifteen from his appearance.
He laughed knowing he will be having a lot of free time. Knowing his brother he knew all his missions were cancelled. That was an obvious Chris move. And there was some truth in it. After all right now Helix's inner wolf is crying out for blood. He wanted to tear down everyone.
He took another mouth full gulp of the whiskey before placing it down and sitting on the conner of the bed. He stroked the forehead of the boy. It was his fault that the boy was in this situation. The least he could do was take responsibility of him.
"Survive" Helix muttered to the boy.
This ladies and gentlemen, this single word sent a unknown spark that Helix had no idea had occurred. This word is one the one that brought about the existence of the third member of the third member of the Pride family. Jacob pride. And this member of the pride family will bring about another great tale about the prides. Now we are in counting three legends. Will there be more legends you ask? Well that is for you to find out as you slowly read through this tale. For you who is intrigued I shall now take you into the web of fate that entagle this family and what becomes of all of them.
Helix slowly storked the boys head . His became still for a second as he felt the wave of connection between him and the boy come to be. A roaring laughter filled the room . The boy had been chosen by the inner wolf Helix bit into him. He was officially Helix's beta.
"Looks like you were not ready to die kiddo. Don't worry. Since you survived the bite leave the rest to me." Helix said mostly to himself. Helix had now become a complete alpha. Thanks to the boy.
