Chereads / I Am a Level 0 Monster Hunter / Chapter 5 - Preparations For Mission #1

Chapter 5 - Preparations For Mission #1

After a week of getting ready and preparing we were finally called to the guild. There we were met by Mychel and the others. We got a tour of the headquarters and met everyone formally. It was quite interesting to meet all these people who had been questing for ages. Especially Big Chonk.

"Oy, there, kiddos!" the hamster came up to us, "It's nice that we'll finally be a legit guild."

Chonk looked over at Mychel. "He's been wantin' this for quite a while."

"Glad he accepted us," I replied.

Chonk was the one to give us the tour. He showed us where the crewmates work, Mychel's office, the blacksmith's room, and the blacksmith - Oneya. We saw where they stored weapons, where the goblin triplets were working, where Ina created potions, and where the Elf and other members practiced. We learned a lot about our fellow guild members and we found out we would soon be heading out for a mission to hunt some low-level Monsters.

We were at HQ for almost the entire day, but we want back home at sunset planning to return to HQ the next morning. Ai and Rayyan slept quite well. How did I know? Because of their snoring. You would expect something like that from Rayyan, but not from Ai. Then again she wasn't exactly the normal type. On the other hand, I slept quite badly. I closed my eyes and counted sheep until I finally fell asleep, excited for the next day; For my first mission.

I woke up surprisingly full of energy. I was expecting to be tired since I couldn't fall asleep for so long, but I guess the excitement carried me through. I got out of bed, put on my morning clothes, and walked out of my room where I met Ai and Rayyan, who were both also up. I waved hi, and clearly, they also had had a great night's sleep.

My, Ai's and Rayyan's rooms were all upstairs along with a bathroom. Downstairs was the kitchen and living area along with a closet. It wasn't the largest house, but you most certainly could not call it small.

I went to the kitchen and began making us breakfast. This being a special day, I decided to make pancakes covered with syrup in the place of cereal or something like that. It didn't take long for me to finish making them and I could soon call down both my friends, who were already lured in by the delicious scent of the syrup.

"Is that syrup I smell?" Ai asked.

"Are those pancakes I see?" Rayyan added on.

They both looked at the pancakes, then at each other and as smiles appeared on their faces looked at me.

We feasted, got our armor and gear, and went to the Guild's HQ. It was twenty minutes away from the house on foot and stood on the outskirts of the city by the wall. The twenty-meter tall Wall.

While this may seem like an Attack on Titan situation, while on the outside of the Wall were luscious forests and nature, infested with Monsters, on the inside, instead of being medieval, it was actually modern. When I say modern I mean modern as in 2020 on earth. We had electric scooters, electricity, and TV. Sadly the city wasn't Sci-Fi as we could not evolve that behind the small city Wall.

As I had finished recalling this we arrived at HQ. As we entered the building we were met by the crew sitting around a table, Mychel at the end of it. He waved us to come to the table and so we did.

He explained the mission to us: Smaller monsters had begun swarming the wall and making any attempt of leaving the city to trade or get needed materials impossible. As the beasts were weaker and smaller in size, dangerous purely because of their numbers a lower level guild was given this task.

While Guilds gave quests to their members, there were also larger Main Guilds for each city, that would spread any quest submitted to them directly to Guilds that could to the task.

We were going to set out an hour later as we had just gotten the quest and needed to get all the gear ready. We were sent to help anyone in the Guild who needed it and after about forty minutes we were done and began readying to head out.
