Tusk pranced around the plaza of her neighborhood, hiding behind the fountain and watched her mother come down and start staring at the rooftops, looking for her. Eventually though, her mother eventually gave up and walked back up through the cobblestone paved alley, to their house. Tusk then bounced down to the nearby forest, pulling out her retractable bug net. Out of the corner of her eye, a butterfly with radiant colors that mirrored the deep ocean shining on it's wings.
"Woah!" She gasped, slowly creeping up on the shiny butterfly. The butterfly danced in the wind, moving behind a bush. "Get back here," Tusk ordered, leaping over the bush. The butterfly eventually landed, on a collapsed demon's head. The demon was tall, had dark and long hair, and her eyes shined of a dark leafy galaxy. Tusk's eyes widened but she stayed silent. She looked her the demon's body, spotting various cuts and bruises. "Hey! Are you okay?" Tusk asked, shaking the demon, trying to wake her. "What did mom say to do when someone was hurt? Oh yeah! Water!"
She sprinted over to a small pond and cupped a handful of water with her hands, but by the time she reached the demon, most of the water had dripped out of her hands. Every time Tusk dropped the small droplets of water on the demon's skin, it absorbed slowly into her body, so Tusk knew it was helping, even if it was only a little. After an hour of bringing the demon small droplets of water, her cuts were healed and she was beginning to regain her consciousness.
Looking up at Tusk, the demon asked, "Hello? Who—are you?"
Sticking a thumb towards herself, Tusk stated, "I'm Tusk, and you?"
"I don't know, I think Sabbath, or maybe Polly—perhaps Penelope, I can't remember."
"That's okay, Tusk is actually my nickname, Marina is my real name," Tusk informed. The demon slowly sat up. Tusk plopped down in front of her and asked, "Where did you come from?"
"I don't remember—I just remember walking until my body collapsed," the demon said, her hands feeling the shifting grass.
"Well I think Sabbath sounds too scary, and you had a name that started with P right?" Tusk queried, resting her hand in her palm, lost in thought. The demon nodded cautiously.
"How about I call you Peregrine? I heard it means wanderer in an ancient language."
Peregrine agreed, quietly stating, "I like it."
