Synopsis
Duncan, who was once an ordinary boy living his life like any other, was faced with two choices offered by a god after he died. "Life doesn't stop, you must keep walking, but the path ahead can be different, you just need to say what you want, but be careful with your words, the higher your dream is, the greater the difficulty." After hearing those words, like many, he answered. "I want power, money and to become successful in my next life!" The god smiled and merely pointed at him, in a fraction of a second, the world became dark and he fell asleep, the next moment he opened his eyes, the world had changed. Robots, technology extremely advanced, bodily modifications, and mega-corporations were a real thing and not part of a book anymore. It was only at that moment he noticed the weight of the god's words, he was right, if he was once living a life in the easy mode, he is now living in the hard mode. Thankfully for him, it seems that the god he met decided to gift him something to make his life not a complete hell.

Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

The sun shone brightly on me as I made my way towards the gate of the school, but blocking my path was the same group of gangsters as always, their faces surfaced in my mind making me wonder when would that end, I have been waiting for far too long.

The three in front of me looked like clowns from my perspective, and how could they not? They wore those leather jackets filled with holes and their hair was colored with different colors, sometimes they used blue, green, or violet hair. I never managed to understand the way people understand fashion in this place, why couldn't they stick with one style and keep it for at least a few weeks?

"Duncan! Hoho, I've been waiting for you boy, it has been so long since we last saw each other, tell me you have a gift for me, otherwise, these friends of mine will become sad and they will want to punish you." The one in the middle wearing a brown leather jacket with jeans and spiked blue hair spoke as if he was talking to a friend, the mild smile on his face was filled with golden teeth, and his eyes looked like that of a cat, probably some sort of modification he paid for.

"Do you never get tired of stealing a kid's money?"

"Should I?" He answered with a question and soon after he and his thugs had a presumptuous smile on their faces.

I clenched my fist and tried to control my heavy breath, it was difficult to control my anger, if I didn't have to lose money every single day I could have saved enough money to buy a weapon by now.

I gave him the miserable amount of 30 credits that once rested in my pocket and went past him, they merely laughed at my actions and started talking about what they should eat today with all the money they stole.

This is outrageous, I wished police in this place were more active, but they usually only go after murderers, terrorists, revolutionaries, and professional criminals, they don't even waste their time with these kinds, and how could they? In the lower city if they were to arrest every single person who commits a minor crime they would have to arrest more than half of the population.

This place is messed up at this level, back in my previous life, things were kind of similar but not at this level, the police would still arrest this sort if it happened in front of them or someone denounced their actions.

I went down the corridors and entered the second door on the left, it was the classroom to where I went every single day from Monday to Friday, I sat down at my chair on the left corner of the room next to the window and stared at the void as I waited.

The time was almost up, soon enough something will happen and I bet it will be something to help me. I sighed and kept looking at the invisible timer in front of me, the small number kept changing every second, it went from ten to nine, then from nine to eight.

When the timer finished, some sort of game-like interface appeared and I could only gulp at the sight, the amount of data in that thing is probably even bigger than the data stored at the many databanks spread throughout the city.

I looked at it for a moment until I found some sort of checkbox with the words, "Simplified version" beside it, looking at that thing I decided to try and control it like I usually did with the computer and it worked, the box was checked and the info changed to a more understandable way.

So, I... I have some sort of role-playing game power? I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing, ever since I was a little kid, this thing had always been there and I've never known what it was really because the only information it gave me was that it was a god's gift.

But seeing is believing, and it is real, after so much time waiting it is finally here and I have a few questions, what is an Evolver, what is an Evolver path and how come the system is telling me to become a criminal, I tried so hard to live according to the law all my life for nothing?

Besides, how the hell does the police have that information about me? How could they even know I agree with some of the revolutionaries, could they have been spying on everyone and collecting their data? I've seen some games talking about similar things but I never thought this was real.

Sighing, I looked outside and appreciated the view of the city, the cars, and the many people on the higher platforms walking as if this was the last day of their lives.

It would take time, but, based on what I currently know about this RPG power I have, this thing might actually be able to help me enter the ranks of the powerful, but it would depend on how I used it.

After giving it some thought I decided to start with the Evolver path thing in my inventory or whatever, I selected it and a box with a few options appeared, I chose to use it, and soon after a new item appeared there together with a message box.

[Evolvers are the next step of human evolution, you are one of the few dozen alive around the world. Evolver paths refer to a set of supernatural abilities you can have as a part of the benefits of being an Evolver. Your path is [Shadow walker]. Know that the path of development isn't equal for everyone, two Evolvers with the same path might discover they are capable of using abilities not even slightly similar.]

Seeing this I looked at my RPG power interface and it was there, according to the information I currently only had access to shadow travel, some sort of locomotion power that can take me anywhere I want within a specific distance so long as I can see it. And next to it was the amount of energy it consumes, which is 10%, although I do not know what this energy is, it could be stamina or even some sort of mana, who knows.

Although I would have loved to use this thing here, I fear some camera might capture my actions and send some sort of signal to anyone interested in a freak with powers.

So instead of using the powers, I started thinking about how I would steal an info-card.

As the other students started to arrive one after the other, my thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of my friend, he sat down in the chair next to mine and we greeted each other with a fist bump.

"Hey bro." He said with a tired voice, he had bags under his blue eyes and looked like someone who was just run over by a truck.

Looking at him I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, he noticed this and asked.

"What is it? Is there something in my face?"

"Yeah, for a moment I thought I was looking at a ghost, you look like someone who just died."

He laughed slightly as he scratched the back of his neck, his pale face was what stood out the most today, if it wasn't for his long brown hair covering part of his face, someone might have thought he was a ghost.

He sighed and looked at my eyes, I could tell he was behaving weirdly today, so I kept pressing him until he answered.

"I think I'm in trouble..."
