Chapter 4 - Acceptance

Knocking on the door, Kowal quietly waited for someone to answer. While waiting for someone to open the door, her thoughts returned to her newly made companions.

"Those two sure are a good bunch." She thought, smiling from her recent meeting.

They truly were an odd duo, what with one being a High Born Wolf wearing a red sleeveless shirt with a hood, leather pants, and red linen armguards. He wasn't that tall for his species, with blue eyes and disproportionate fangs. In a word, he was kinda cute. Not that she was going to say this in front of him, or anywhere else for the matter.

On the other hand, his brother, well, adopted brother really, only has some intricate-looking saddle on his back filled with their bags.

'I guess those are their items and the saddle could have been a gift from Anu?' she thought

Suddenly the door opened, and she was answered by one of her co-workers and friends.

"Kowal is that you?" she asked

"Yup, it is" Kowal answered and then let herself in.

Inside, she saw two other of her co-workers in a deep conversation; looking around the room, she saw that they had rearranged some of the furniture. Looking back at the one who had let her in, she asked.

"You guys really had cleaned this place what's going on?"

Her friend looked at her with a smile and answered.

"Well, tomorrow is the day we're expecting recruits to flood the premises to register as adventurers as it had been going on since like forever every time during the Festival of Peace!" she said enthusiastically

'Wait that's' tomorrow?' Kowal thought and remembered that tomorrow is the annual Festival of Peace. It's a festival to commemorate the signing of the Species Alliance and the peace that has since been in the Kingdom. And to think she was explaining part of that history to her two new friends just recently!

Laughing at her apparent forgetfulness, she then told her friend about why she was here.

"Hey Limmy, can you give me a favor? I have two recruits I wish to register,". She said to her friend.

Limmy looked like she just won the lottery when Kowal told her about two new recruits. Shaking her friend with excitement, she then asked her why she had not told her about that immediately.

Kowal looking sheepish shook her head clear, cleared her throat, and told her friend that she may have forgotten about what she wanted to say when Limmy told her about the coming festival tomorrow.

Limmy after hearing this could only shake her head in disbelief, looking at her friend and then telling her

"Kowal, you always get distracted this is like the fifth time this day!" she said to Kowal

Who only looked more sheepish and started mumbling that it wasn't her fault they placed the weapon racks high and that she wasn't tall enough to reach it!

Letting out a breath, Kowal then asks about her problem again.

"So would you just sign them up already?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation away from her embarrassing experience this morning.

Limmy agreed and then told her to fetch the two so she can begin registering Kowal's new friends.

Agreeing and leaving the room, Kowal happily went back to the waiting duo to tell them they were finally going to be registered as Adventurers.

When she finally arrived back, she saw that the two were conversing. She immediately went to them to tell the news.

"Hey guys!" she exclaimed announcing her arrival

Anu and Teine were talking about their journey to get here when they heard their Kobold friend shouting at them.

Turning their head to her, they saw her approaching them happily.

"Guess what!" she said, stopping in front of the two. She then put both of her arms on her hips and told them in a cheerful tone that they had been told to go to her friend to register their names!

Hearing this, the two brothers could only jump in excitement about the news. Delighted, the two started dancing around in circles while tapping their feet on the floor in a rhythm.

To say that it was funny to see a Bipedal Wolf and a Fire Wyvern are dancing around like two children was an understatement! Most of the people nearby turned their heads to the duo, some just shook their heads in disbelief about the childish display while others wore a smile, happy seeing them act like children, some other just doesn't care and returned to what they were doing.

Kowal was already on the floor, laughing at the humorous display in front of her. Seeing this, Anu quickly stopped and glared at her. Telling her it was not a laughing matter and that he and his brother went from pain and tears just to become adventurers.

Teine just continued his prance doing a good impersonation of a horse.

Anu couldn't help himself and just burst out laughing, joining Kowal in her mirth, and the two were wriggling on the floor in merriment, Teine joining them afterward.

After they had settled down from their hilarious moment, the trio gathered themselves and quickly went to Kowal's friend to register Anu and Teine as adventurers.

Arriving at their destination, Kowal again knocked on the door, and this time it opened instantly.

"Hey!" Limmy said, happy to see the two potential adventurers

"Please come inside!" she said, admitting the trio inside the Registration Room.

After they settled down and after Limmy inspected the two recognizing their species respectively, went to her desk and searched for the Registration Forms that they gave to potential adventurers, finding two forms she then asked the duo about themselves and the particular reasons on why they wish to become adventurers.

Choosing to answer for both of them, Anu then told her their story.

He began with "Well, Teine and I grew up in Cailin Town near the Cailin Forest. Our family lived on the outskirts of town just near the edge of the forest itself, my dad wanted a silent environment to raise a family so he chose to build a house outside town, thankfully the town mayor agreed to my dad's wish and sold him a piece of land." Then he added looking at his brother, "And then a few years later when I was already five, Dad and I found an abandoned egg in the forest when we were off finding herbs for my mother's potions. Deciding to bring the egg with us, we carried it towards our home, putting it near the fireplace, to say that my mother was shocked, seeing us carrying an egg was an understatement, she even thought the egg was for dinner!" Anu said in remembrance laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.

Seeing his brother laugh, Teine let out a chuckle and continued the story.

"Mom said that when Dad and my brother told her about how they found my egg and that it was abandoned, she became unhappy and approached my egg. They say the first thing she did was embrace my egg in a hug. Mom then told my Dad and brother to put up a fire quickly in the fireplace to warm my egg, doing what they were told. Mom then went to her room and fetched a blanket to use as a cover for my egg."

Teine regaled looking at his brother with fondness on his eyes.

"After that night, when we were eating, we suddenly heard cracking sounds. Curios me and dad went to the living room and saw that the egg was starting to hatch. We quickly called mom and she was quick to come to our side. We then watched the egg slowly hatch, at first the egg was chipping slowly with something poking it on the inside, after a while some of the shells fell and we finally saw what's inside. To say that we were amazed to see the creature we found was saying it much. Dad's eyes were as huge as saucers! Getting bored watching the egg slowly hatch, I quickly went to it and started helping the little guy out of its prison." Anu continued after seeing his brother distracted remembering the event.

Teine seeing his brother nod his head asking him to continue the conversation, then regaled the events from his point.

"The first thing I saw when I finally came out of my egg was my brother's paws holding me, and when I looked up, I saw his eyes looking at me in adoration, while our parents were enveloping us in a hug." He finished.

Kowal and Limmy were so engrossed in the story that when Anu and Teine stopped, they were dejected when it ended.

Kowal, who loved the story so much exclaimed.

"Wait, that's it?" she asked

Looking sheepish, the brothers then told her they didn't particularly wish to tell their entire life and reminding her they were here to register as adventurers not to tell their life. Anu, seeing Kowal miffed, then promised her they were going to tell more after when they are registered.

Limmy seeing the duo was done regaling their story, then asked them why they wish to become adventurers.

Anu answered her, "Because my brother and I made a promise to travel the lands together and to offer our help to those who needed it!" he said with much conviction in his voice.

Teine nodded his head, agreeing with his brother's explanation of why they wish to become adventurers, and added.

"And our parents also told us that our future lies outside the forest and that they wish for us to aid people in need of help." He said like his brother, voice full of conviction.

Kowal saw that the brothers meant what they said and looking at them, their eyes shown so much conviction that she couldn't help but grin with delight. 'So these two want to help other people and travel the world?' she thought, remembering her reasons for joining were almost the same.

Limmy smiled at them and then gave them their registration forms, instructing them to sign their information on the papers and then honestly answer each of the questions found in it.

The brothers jotted their information on the form with Anu helping his brother with his paper since Teine's draconic form can't hold anything short of medium to large items and holding a pen is close to impossible!

The two took their time answering the questions on the paper; well, Anu did the answering while Teine informed his brother of his answers so that Anu can put them on his paper. After a while, the duo finally finished and after a thorough re-checking of their papers, gave it to Limmy who then started writing their information and checking their answers.

While this was happening Anu then asked Kowal why there were questions in the Registration Forms.

"Hey Kowal, why are there several questions in the Registration Form?" Anu wondered

Kowal, who knew this question was coming and was quite surprised that they only asked after they were finished submitting their papers, as most people asked that question during the time they are writing, answered Anu's inquiry.

"Well, the Registration Form isn't just a form it's also a kind of test to see if potential adventurers even have the capacity to be one!" she said "And that is why there were questions in there asking you about what you would particularly do when you encounter something new or dangerous." She added.

Nodding his head in understanding, Anu then turned his head towards Limmy and waited for their results. Walking towards Teine leaning to his brother's warm scales, Anu asked him if he was feeling fine.

Curious about the question and thinking why his brother inquired about his feelings, Teine answered his brother.

"I am fine Anu, though I would like to ask why you wish to know?" he said, "I'm sure that nothing bad had happened to the two of us in the last hours." He added.

Anu, who looked sheepishly shook his head and told his brother that that wasn't what he meant, he wished to know if he was feeling alright since in a moment they will finally become full-fledged adventurers a dream they had to hold on to since they were young!

He also added that there was a chance they might not get accepted at all!

Teine finally understanding his brother's inquiry, nodded his head and said.

"Yes Anu, I believe I feel alright considering the situation a bit terrified for the prospect of finally achieving our dream and quite exultant of it as well,". He answered truthfully and then leaned his warm body towards his brother to quench his brother's anxiety about the results.

The duo then proceeds to snuggle with each other.

Moments later Limmy finally places her hands back down and laid her pen on the table, after reviewing her writing, she then looked at the two and summoned what seems to be a small light shaped in a ball, throwing it in the air and with a flourish of light falling at them, happily told Anu and Teine the good news.

"Congratulations you two, you both are now officially part of the Adventurers Guild!" she shouted with joy

"And not only that, but I decided to recommend our friend Kowal to handle your training!" she added.

Ecstatic about the news and their acceptance and hearing that their Kobold friend may become their future trainer, the brothers couldn't help but shout for joy and dance in circles again, though this time they were joined by their new friends Kowal and Limmy.

Now, as members of the Guild Anu and Teine couldn't wait to see what's in store for them! How their lives are going to change now that they have finally achieved one of their dreams!

Kowal thought about how things are going to change in this place with the duo of the Wolf and the Dragon becomes her trainees and she was already looking forward to the time they will spend together in training!

Limmy was just happy that they have added two new members to their guild, them being a sure good one was only adding to the bonus!
