Chapter 4 - Xin'er

The next week was monotonous, with David practicing his cultivation without break. He made sure to keep it a secret, how would he explain that he remembered his previous life? Then, one day, his father took him outside their house for the first time. David was excited. He could finally see how the world looked like.

They went to the market. It was bustling. There were people everywhere. David noticed that although Gabriel had some stature, there were many people who ranked higher than him in nobility, and astonishingly, his father had to give respect to anyone wearing the emblem of the national magical academy.

"Remember David, whatever you do, don't offend anyone in the magical academy. They are people guaranteed to be at least a Tier 6 magician. That is your goal. When you are 12, you will have a chance to join the academy, use it well."

David continued looking around at interesting stalls. Seeing this, his father said, "Here take 50 coins, take what you want to, but return before dusk at this very spot. Don't be late"

David quickly thanked his father and took the money. He explored the stalls when something caught his eye. At the far end of the market was the other side of life. There were people begging, stealing and amidst all that was a small girl crying.

David went up to her an slowly beckoned her. She was clearly hungry so he offered her a piece of bread he brought from his house. She looked at him, and that was when David finally saw her face, clear as jade, eyes as blue as the sea. She was not some ordinary girl, David judged.

The girl finally mustered enough strength to say, "Thank you ge. I don't have enough money now, when I'm older, I will give it to you."

David smiled, "It's okay, I have more than enough for myself, so I gave it to you, every Sunday I will come here any way, so then I'll give you some food and money okay"

David helplessly committed his Sunday to the girl unconsciously, unable to bear the pain watching her suffer like this.

"What is you name? Where your parents?" David asked.

"I am Xin'er. My parents were separated from me few weeks ago, I can't find them."

"Oh! Don't worry your parents will find you. Till then you have to take care of yourself." David reassured her.

David saw the sun setting, and he rushed back to the meeting point, buying some candy on the way to avoid suspicion . When he got back home, he kept thinking about Xin'er, and who it reminded him of.

He cleared his mind eventually and sat down, meditating for some time and the went to sleep.
