"A feeling of pleasure or solace can be so hard to find when you are in the
depths of your grief. Sometimes it's the little things that help get you through the
day.
You may think your comforts sound ridiculous to others, but there is nothing
ridiculous about finding one little thing to help you feel good in the midst of pain
and sorrow!"
– Elizabeth Berrien, Creative Grieving: A Hip Chick's Path from Loss to Hope
When the middle of the night came, I opened my eyes, checking on the three idiots, if they are already past asleep, before getting off the bed.
I tried so hard to see, if anyone is still awake by peeking on their faces, from the light that comes from the moon. When I already assured myself, that no one is awake, I carefully took my leaver, and tiptoed to get out of our cell.
I took my leave on our cell, and try to look for the kid who just sold me out awhile ago.
I tried to look side by side, taking a peek on each of the cells, I get to passed by carefully, so I would know where to find her, since I don't usually get out of our cell. and when I do? My only destination is the Dark Claw's stock room, so I can still supplies, for our everyday living.
When I saw her, I immediately enter her cell very carefully, as I tiptoed to get myself near her while holding my dagger in both hands.
The moon light coming from the holes of her cell's shows how pathetic her situation was, while she lies on a cold dirt, inside her cage.
I saw the girl full of dirt, wound, and bruises on her body. It seems like someone stole her bread on the way, and took it from her forcefully.
I tightened my grip on my dagger, before putting its cold sharp on the kid's neck. This awakened her and about to shout for help when I covered her mouth with my other hand.
"Dare to make a sound and I won't hesitate to do the same to you…
Same of what I did to that Goat Guy." I said with a hint of danger.
This made the girl more terrified of me. She nods her head and pinned her lips shut while looking at me terrified.
She's trembling in fear, as her face turned white, and her sweat and blood from her temple flow at the side of her face. She's bleeding, but she doesn't seem to mind her blood dripping at all.
Her fresh blood flow, at the tip of my dagger, as it's blade sink into her flesh.
"If you still want to live longer, better to shut that mouth of yours. Or else I'll make you shut that fucking mouth for the rest of your life. Remember that I always know where to find your whereabouts." I scared her, before taking my dagger off her neck.
I stood straight, tilting my head making her see the demon trying to come out inside me, through my eyes which made her tremble in fear while hugging her knees. She touches the part in which my blade dogged against her skin.
I tried to composed myself, as my soft sides, starts to eat my composure.
I pity her situation…
I pitied the fact, that she had to do something, like that just get a piece of bread…
I pitied her so bad, that after doing something bad for others to sustain her hunger, somebody else would steal the food, which was supposed to be hers.
I look up, and see the night sky, from the holes of her cell.
Stars were shining so bright, as the beauty of the moon lightened the world…
We are not supposed to be here…
I look down again, to see the little girl starving herself in the corner, and realized that I bought a sweet potato with me, for some reason I don't know about.
Maybe this the reason, why I unconsciously bought a piece of sweet potato…
So I can help this pathetic girl, who was forced to do bad things, for her own survival.
I took the food from my pocket and throw her a piece of sweet potatoes without saying anything, before taking my leave. But as when I'm about to go, the little girl uttered a words while still trembling in fear.
"W-why are y-you g-giving me this?" She asked terrified.
" W-why g-give me food, even after k-knowing because of me, y-you were h-harmed?" She stuttered.
" Because it seems like you need it," I answered in poker face. Before finally leaving her cell.
But before I could finally get myself out, I heard her say two words that made me smile bitterly.
"Thank you..." I heard her say.
I smiled bitterly.
If only you are not inside this hell.
If only were in a different place.
Maybe you won't need to do such a thing for a piece of bread.
If we're only not inside this hell, maybe we can become good friends. And I wouldn't need to become a monster.
I sighed before I carefully find my way to go back to our den. I look side by side to know if there are any hunters around the corner, before walking into the hall.
I was running to reach our cell when I fell off my feet as I bump into someone wearing a black-cloaked, and a ruby necklace around her necked.
My heart drummed inside my chest. Oh, fuck! I was caught!
I gripped on my dagger tightly and was ready to attack the person in black-cloaked, when another three Assassins, came on the way.
The person in black-cloaked didn't say anything, he or she just took my hand and hide me on the file of wooden boxes. She or he then faced the three Assassins, and take them far away from me.
I took that chance to run as fast as I can, to go back to our cell, and sleep beside Sean. But before I go to sleep, I still think about that person who helps me out awhile ago. Who is he? Or she? And why did that person helped me?.
