Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"It should be just around this corner..."

Turning the corner, Harlow screams in terror as a giant boar comes running straight at her. Unsheathing her sword, Aithne runs in front of Harlow, heading straight for the boar. The boar stands about as big as a small pick-up truck, with two large tusks longer and thicker than a fully grown man's arm protruding from it's snout.

Aithne swings her sword and manages to cut into the boar's right shoulder without getting hit by it's ginormous tusks. Turning around, she goes for another strike, but the boar had already turned and started charging towards her.

Steam pours from it's nostrils as it charges towards Aithne, a tusk pointing straight at her stomach. Aithne trys to dodge, but doesn't get out of the way fast enough. The tusk grazes her rib cage, and blood starts to spread on her shirt. Shouting out in shock and pain, she starts to hobble over towards Harlow.

"H-harlow...ugh...shoot it..."

"Uhm...y-yea got it" Harlow replies as she looks down the barrel of a pistol and aims at the boar.

The lets out a small bang and the boar squeals as a bullet flies into it's neck. The bullet only seemed to anger it, though, as it changes targets and charges towards Harlow instead. Frozen in fear and shock of what she'd just done, Harlow barely has time to react as the boar slams into her, and she goes flying into the building across the street.

"Harlow!"

The boar goes charging after Harlow into the wreckage of a local pizza place, crushing bits of concrete under it's feet. Holding one hand over her wound, Aithne starts to run towards Harlow and the boar. She manages to make it to the boar, although a little too late. Aithne, noticing the blood spatters on chunks of concrete, plunges her sword deep into the boar's side, the blade sliding between ribs and sinking in up to its hilt. She pulls the sword out and plunges it in once, twice more before the boar almost sends her flying as it turns to face her, her sword still stuck in it's side.

Aithne turns to run, knowing full well she won't make it far enough to get away from the boar. As she begins to run, she hears a loud THUMP behind her, and, turning around, she sees the boar lying in the street, breathing very heavily. There was blood pouring from it's neck and side, with Aithne's sword sticking out from it's side, rising and falling with each labored breath.

"No...there's no way...Harlow!" screaming, she dashes towards where Harlow was, shouting her name over and over.

"No, no , no no no no. You can't be...you haven't even destroyed the first Origin yet, c'mon, Harlow, the boar's practically dead all you gotta do is shoot it, just once..." trailing off, Aithne stares at Harlow's face, bloody blonde hair matted to her skull, blue eyes staring blankly into the night sky. Not a single breath escaping her lips, not the rising and falling of her chest, or the blink of an eye.

"Ha-Harls? Harlow? N-no, c'mon..."Aithne clutches her friend's dead body, tears falling from her cheeks and landing on Harlow's still face. "You bastard! You sent her on a suicide mission!"

"Oh, you're blaming it on me now?" A cool voice speaks behind her.

Turning, Aithne sees Satan, the very one who gave her, Harlow, this task. The devil that just as good as... "You killed her! I'll kill you!" Dashing towards Satan, Aithne swings her fists towards him, clawing at him, trying to reach his neck, to wring it, to squeeze the life out of him, and as she does, two rough sets of hands grab her around her wrists and drag her away from him.

She twists and squirms, trying to get out of the gaurd's grasp, but they're too strong and she's too weak. " Hanging her head down she whispers, "You... you killed her. You know it, Satan. You killed her." she glares up at Satan, and her normally hazel eyes turn a bottomless black, her red hair flying around her in the wind, as if she was surrounded by flames.

"Aithne. You know very well that she accepted the terms. She knew what she was getting into. You can't blame me for her death."

"Yes, I can" Aithne manages to say through gritted teeth.

Ignoring her, he continues "Now, well, she's dead. So naturally, you will take her place as the Chosen One. You are certainly capable of it, aren't you?" His flaming red eyes and thin smile suggested she had no choice in the matter.

"Bastard."

"Bye-bye, then. Make sure to destroy the Origin, it's in the boar's stomach."

And, with a flick of his long, black hair, he disappeared, along with his burly Devilspawn gaurds.

Sinking to her knees, eyes fading back to hazel, she curls up on the ground, her body heaving with sobs as she mourns her loss deep into the night.
