The Halloween party went on like usual. No one had found the boy's body yet so there was no need to cancel. Everyone came in their costumes, those who had dressed up on their respective school days came in their earlier worn costumes. While those who had not participated during school were now fully decorated in the Halloween spirit adorning clever intricate costumes that would have taken far too long to put on to have warn for a regular school day. Few noticed the same hooded figure from the day before, standing quietly in a corner, close to the doors, observing the celebration going on. The boy and girl from the day before went on like nothing had happened just the day before. Most likely they had no memory of the event, but if you were to ask them about what happened after school that day they would avoid the question. Meaning they might still know what had happened, but would rather ignore it. The mass of people all around in the gym made it hard for any one to concentrate on one thing for more than a moment. Making even the most focused of students scatter brained and filled with a confused merriment and joy that could not be explained.
The costume contest would soon begin. All those who were to participate were up on stage. Almost the entire school was here in the gym at this point. After the costume contest everyone was to take off their masks and show all who they really were. It was only two hours away from midnight. The party was just starting to get good about this time, even thought there was only two hours left for all those participating to enjoy the party. There were plenty of costumes for judging so it took quite a while for all the contestants to show off their apparel and let their fellow students mentally note what spoke to them in the costumes. There were elaborate monsters; werewolves with long sharp looking fake claws, snouts constructed in a way still allowing the wearer to speak clearly and get the required amount of breath no matter what they were doing, unlike most face coverings that would make it difficult for the wearer to breath. A very well done zombie slunk across the stage; they had bits of fake flesh hanging from off their face, torn clothes, fake blood, and patchy hair with mud every where. After a zombie there was a serial killer costume, they had on black combat boots, black leggings with dark grey shorts, an over sized dark blue hoodie, there was streaks and spots of fake blood on her hands and face, their hair was cut short in a cute pixie cut, and they had one of the fake knives you can get at a costume store that had the fake blood inside that would run along the length of the blade when you tip it point down and almost disappear when you held the blade with the tip pointing towards the ceiling.
As more and more costumes were presented to the student body for judging, the figure in the corner of the room began to move forward getting closer to the stage. The gym doors were closing, as the mass of students were focused on the costumes and other activities at the party. There were games like bobbing for apples, guessing games, and even a little haunted maze set up on the bleachers. Quietly and carefully the hooded figure made it's way to the stage, making sure not to touch anyone so as to not alarm them to their presence.
Hooded figure P.O.V.
What a nice party, so many people, and plenty of games and things to distract their attention. Really the planners did all the work for me. Now all I have to do is make it to the stage, after all I will be the one announcing the time of unmasking. I have to still be careful, the people around here don't like it when I touch them even by accident. My friends had never minded when I had bumped them or had in inadvertently touch them or their things. Of course that is from a way different time, things have changed quite a bit since I died. In fact it amazes me they still have this party from when I was a kid and student at this high school.
Third person
Having been caught in a spiral of thought the hooded figure was no longer paying attention to where they were going. Another student, a girl with glasses and pigtails dressed in a very odd outfit, she had on black and white striped socks that went up to her knees, a black skirt, and a dark red long sleeve shirt. Her glasses were also red and the frame was made of thin metal wire, the ends of her pigtails were dyed red on one side and blue on the other. She was shoved into the hooded person. The figure caught the girl, who had been pushed by a boy. The girl was crying and the jerk of a guy who had pushed her was laughing uncontrollably. He seemed to take pleasure in her misery. There was no leaving this man unpunished. Without even removing the mask it made the boy turn his laugh of amusement into a scream of pain. He wasn't able to scream for long as the source of his anguish was his vocal cords being burned to ash.
