Chapter 1 - REALITY: PART I

… It hurts.

The first the girl felt was the pain. Up until that moment of time, she was still at school preparing for the upcoming school exam, and suddenly she felt pain and drowsiness.

… Even though it was just a little, she wanted to wake up.

The girl was thrown into the ground all abandoned in an empty dark place. She could see anything but she could hear numerous people passing by.

By the way, since this situation was one she, herself, couldn't explain at all. Let this one explain what she recalls.

My name is Ren. Ren Spencer, a mix American, Japanese who is currently living and studying in Japan. A senior high school at Meiji Academy. An outstanding girl who was top of her school, who's soon to be 18 years of age. I was my school president and have represented my school in my academic, music and sports event. I've always achieved the best and was a happy go lucky girl. I was surrounded with so many people who showed so much love towards me.

However, just a few moments ago, I was living a normal high school life. Until, something happened which brings me to where I am now. That's how it is... However, because of my memory not being clear, I currently don't know what exactly happened and thus leaving me wondering as to why I'm all alone and in so much pain in this dark alley.

To be honest, I don't even know what day it is. I must have been unconscious for a long time seeing my body felt so light and cold.

"I'm sure my parents are worried sick of me."

To be honest, I don't even know the way back home. Since, I hardly go out on my own. I've always traveled with my family or friends. Never, have I been this far on my own. So, finding my way home is another challenge.

The girl slowly stood up and felt her limbs were out of control. She felt as if her body was no longer hers.

"Strange, why does my body feel so light yet I'm having a hard time to stand?" She checked herself and notice nothing seems to be wrong with her. She was still in her uniform, it means she must have been on her way to school before she ended up in such a place or maybe on her way home. Since, she couldn't recall anything, she assumes she was either on her way to school or on her way home. And, the day must be a weekday since she was in her uniform.

… I better hurry up, it seems it'll be raining soon.

As she walked out of the dark alley, she found herself in such a strange and dark place. She didn't know what to do, for she was frightened by the people who seemed to have noticed her.

… I better find my way out of her. How did I even end up in such a place? This place is like one of those gangster territories I've seen in movies. Who would have thought such a place exists in Tokyo.

Since I'm in Tokyo, it means I must have been on my way to take the entrance exam. Since I'm still here I must have encountered some trouble on my way home or to the entrance exam. But, wasn't I with… Ah, that's right, I left early and decided to go ahead first.

Despite her worried about not finding the right way out of such an eerie place, she followed her guts and just go along where she could see more busy people.

… Since there are more normal people heading this way, it means they are workers. And if one sees workers, meaning they are taking the train.

When she meant workers she meant businessmen or businesswomen, since they were all wearing formal suits and dresses.

"Ah, do I even have my…" She reached down to her packet to see if she had her wallet since she no longer had her bag. "Bingo!" She cheered as she felt her wallet was still in her pocket.

Whilst she was on her way to the nearest train station, she overheard the people talking about an awful news that happened recently.

"Gosh, who would do such a thing to such an innocent child."

"The person who did it must be pure evil. I mean, the child has a bright future."

"I hope they find the killer soon."

"But, what's the point. She died and all her parents' hopes and dreams for her are all gone."

… I wonder what happened? Seems like a student just died. I wonder who the person is. I hope it's not someone I know, if it is, I don't know what I'll do.

The girl continued to listen to the people's conversation, she wanted to ask them but felt it was not necessary since she can find out for herself later when she arrives home. For now, her priority was to find her way home.

When she arrived at the train station, she found it strange why her train pass wasn't working.

"I'm sure my parents have renewed my pass before I went to Tokyo."

As she was about to ask some help, the gate suddenly opened.

… Oh, maybe I guess I didn't scan it well. Hmm, why do I feel cold again, I'm wearing my coat and everything. Did I catch a cold for staying outside for a long time?

When the girl finally sat on her seat, she felt tired and drowsy again.

… Hmm, I guess I'll sleep for now. It's still a long way anyways.

After a few hours, the girl woke up realizing it was almost her stop.

"Good thing I woke up." She stretched her arms in the air and noticed the whole train was empty. "Where did everyone go?"

Ren's House

… Isn't my house amazing. I know it is a house my father built himself since he is a famous architect. He built the house with my mother's favorite decor and style. So, technically it's a house they built with love. A house where I grew up and had so many fun memories.

But strangely, when the girl opened the door. The house felt gloomy and dark. "Kenji, are you home?"

… Kenji is my twin brother, we don't really get along since we are siblings. Plus, it's natural for siblings to not get along in the first place.

As she continued to examine her whole house, she noticed no one was around, including their dogs. "Where did everyone go? Why are all the lights turned off?"

All of the sudden, the phone rang. Hearing the phone ring, startled her as she felt something awful must have happened.

… Please, don't tell me the news I heard earlier has nothing to do with my brother. This can't be true. Did Kenji meet such an awful death? Who would even dare do such a thing to him.

Since she didn't answer the call, it went directly to voicemail.

"Kenji, where are you? You haven't answered my call and our teacher has been asking where you are…"

… Oh, it's just Fuji, Kenji's strange best friend. He's the type of friend I'll never associate myself with. His family runs a temple and his family is quite well off like ours. But, he's just strange, and Kenji gets along so well with him. Sometimes, I find both of them strangely as they always seem to be talking about strange things.

I wonder what happened to Kenji? It's not like him to skip school. I mean, even though he wanted to do so since he found the troublesome, he still not that kind to do something which will cause are parents rage.

"Kenji, I know you're still worried for your sister. I'm sorry, but please answer my call."

… Ah, so something happened to Kenji's sister. So that's why he skipped school. I wonder what happened to his sister?

Wait- Ain't I Kenji's sister?

When the girl realized it, she thought something had indeed been strange. She anxiously looked around the house again, and there it was. A memorial ceremony was being held for her.

… Why are they holding a memorial ceremony for me? I'm still here, I'm not dead? Wait, could it be they think I'm dead since I've been away for a long time. Shouldn't they be searching for me instead of declaring me dead.

The girl grabbed the piece of paper as she read it, she hurriedly ran out of the house causing the paper to float in the air as she dropped on the ground.

With tears running down her face, she felt her heart was in such pain. Since she could still feel such pain, she knew for herself she was alive.

… There must be a misunderstanding here. Why would they declare that I'm dead, I was missing not dead? Why, who would make such news.
