Chapter 59 - Lovers to Strangers

"It's inevitable. He'll come back... for us." Leon said, slipping a mask over his face. He slipped through the crowds with Clover and Reyon, not paying much attention to the people also entering the building next to him.

Clover and Reyon also slipped on masks. Clover simply took the form of a random civilian to gain entrance, since a cat would obviously not be allowed inside.

They were all seated in the corner of the club. They peered around to make sure nobody was listening in as they spoke. The conversation was quite dreadful.

"If you two die... how do you expect me to help Amora?" Clover asked, adjusting her cat mask over her face, seemingly uncomfortable.

"You don't have to help at all, but, if we do end up dead. Could you please keep Amora away? Keep that boy away from Amora."

"Of course! I wouldn't let anything happen to her!"

"Do you promise that?" Reyon asked, maybe a bit coldly. Perhaps she was thinking for her daughter and not Clover's feelings.

Clover assumed this was the point of no return, but she was very ready.

"I promise."

...

Clover watched over Amora from a distance for some time, trying to learn more about her since she had just found her parents, but it seemed like nothing was really helping her to find out more about Amora. Most times Amora would either be hiding in her room or just walking around the areas outside Leon's house depressingly. She would very slowly walk and sometimes look at flowers or, come winter just the snow. She would just sit there and stare into the forest nearby, the bird chirped, but this did nothing to help her mood.

Amora was broken, just as Clover had been when she lost the love of her life.

Amora stepped out of the warehouse, she looked into the distance, past the tall buildings and into the forest that stretched for miles, miles that would eventually lead to Leon's house, or what was left of it.

Amora sighed, put down her sword, and turned back to look at her two children, quietly sleeping. Their aging had stopped, but they looked to be about 2 years old already. Amora, not entirely phased by the craziness around her, stepped into the open air. She breathed in calmly and turned her head as Cole approached her.

"Amora. We need to talk." He said.

"Do we?" She spoke, breathing in, tasting the city air, which, at the moment, was dry and polluted. Many riots began after Leon and Reyon's deaths. People wanted action taken against their killer, but it was to no avail. The Mayor refused to do anything.

That's when the people began theorizing that she was either paid off or maybe she was on the side of the man himself.

"If we don't, how do we ever overcome our problems?" Cole spoke softly, trying to put his hand on Amora's shoulder.

She stepped back, giving him a glare.

"You can trust no one." She spoke, her words cold and full of malice.

"Amora, you can trust me."

"No. No, I cannot."

Within weeks, Amora was already trying to slip out of the house. Stacy was having NONE of it. She would pull Amora back into the house, and even stop her from climbing out the second-story window.

However she knew she couldn't keep Amora there forever, but she couldn't let Amora go outside and get into a fight, especially with the man who was after her and had taken over much of the city, and it appeared nobody was on Amora's side. As she spent time online, she found various messaging boards and blogs spreading misinformation on Amora, and why she needs to be stopped. While very rarely she would find one who defended Amora, or more so just trash-talked the mayor. Such as:

Sylvia: "Didn't the mayor say that Leon, Reyon, and Amora were all killed? Why are we now supposed to be on the lookout for her?"

Rod: "That's what I'm saying, Amora Akermota is dead, why are we watching out for a dead man? The mayor has GOT to go."

Rose: "Woman. Dead woman."

Rod: "It's a phrase or whatever."

And other, non-helpful forums like:

Pleasant_Wolf: "If I found her, I'd have her shot dead in no time."

Leila_Marlene: "What? Psycho. The Mayor is obviously being threatened into finding Amora for someone."

Pleasant_Wolf: "So? It'd be nice to be awarded for dealing with her regardless. The Akermotas are very overrated. You save a state in the USA ONCE and suddenly you're the world's heroes."

Leila_Marlene: "Pfft, you're pathetic. Grow up."

Stacy moved her cursor to the power button and clicked it, then clicked the power off option. These forums only managed to bother her more and more. She could only wonder what it was that Amora could have possibly done to deserve what was happening to her. Was it as The Mayor had said? That Amora was a danger to everyone?

Stacy stood from her chair, sighed, and walked up to a door, turning the handle gently, releasing its lock. Upon opening the door, she looked at the bed Amora would have been on. An empty bed, the window forcefully shoved open, and the rain outside soaking the princess sheets.
