Chapter 2 - Innocence

"Eva, will you hurry up! The customers can't wait all day! Their blood will be cold before they leave the shop!" quietly scolded Ann as she finished ringing up her customer.

Eva snapped back to reality standing at the blood espresso machine. Being lost in a daze, she had failed to realize the crowd of customers filling up the small shop.

"There seems to be so many more customers these days, Ann. I'm sorry. I'll focus," whispered Eva over her shoulder so the crowd wouldn't hear.

"Of course there are! This new idea of Expresso Black (hot blood with five shots of caffeine) from the bossman has the customers lining up like addicts," chuckled Ann. "Too bad we dont drink blood or else we could at least try it to see what the fuss is all about. Tsk. Dorian and his ideas," chuckled Ann to herself.

Eva had to agree. As of late, their boss Dorian, who was also a vampire, had been putting up more advertising and tossing around new ideas to bring in clients. Not that the small Blood Drank Cafe wasn't already successful, but the man loved money. Could you blame him? Ever since he concocted the idea of making a blood based coffee shop, the place had ceased to be busy and he had already acquired a small fortune. Their small staff of four managed to crank out orders and manage the shop all day, and the pay was great, but working seven days a week was demanding.

Dorian had made it very clear that working for him meant having no life and focusing on making money that you probably wouldn't spend, so for the four of them who loved working more than living, this job was perfect. Except on days like today when a new item dropped and there was barely time to breathe. But like a well piled machine, they fought together to make it work.

Eva, finally composing herself from her daydream, began cranking out orders. Her hands were like a blur with her speed and proficiency being a mixologist. Dorian hired her because of her background in beekeeping, and her skills had paid off. He was yet to stumble across someone with her speed and skills who could keep up with the demands of the clients while remaining level headed. Even with her moment of spacing out, she was able to fill the two back orders plus another five.

Once again and ad always, Eva was lost in her work. Her mind once again focused on the task at hand pushing all other thoughts aside. Lately, "those" thoughts had been coming more and more but right now she had a job to do. No time for distractions.

So absorbed in her work, she never noticed the deep set of red eyes that watched her from across the small cafe for the past few days.

Those eyes held mischeif, and the owner of those eyes smiled to himself. "Her face is so innocent, but the darkness I see within is quite tempting...I wonder how long before it comes to light," he chuckled slowly to himself as he pushed up from is seat and glided quietly out of the cafe.
