Nicki POV
For some reason, that heterochromatic boy consumed my thoughts every second of my day. I don't even know why. Maybe it was the way he could scare someone with a single glare. Or maybe it was the way he had that confidence in his stance. I don't know. It was weird. I didn't even know that guy's name for Pete's sake!!! Besides, the chances of meeting him again are so slim it's not even funny,' I thought with a small smile.
"Hey, what are you smiling about?"
I looked up at Matt, one of my siblings and shrugged.
"Dunno."
He smirked at me, leaning on my shoulder as I tried to refocus on my language paper.
"Oh I know that look, Ototo (brother in Japanese). Who's the girl?"
I looked up sharply, spluttering incoherently as my face warmed.
"Th-There's no girl!" I protested with a huff of irritation.
"Ooh, boy then? It's okay. I won't tell Kaa san (mother in Japanese)."
I elbowed him right in the ribs, sticking my tongue out at him.
"There's no boy, or girl. And why would you think I'd like a boy anyways?"
He just gave me this look and I rolled my eyes at his antics.
"Whatever. It's not like anyone would like me anyways," I muttered under my breath.
"What's this?"
I looked up again to see my other brother Sammy who had a mischievous grin stretched across his lips.
"Does my baby brother have a crush?"
"I'm NOT a baby!" I whined. "Baka Baka Baka (idiot)."
"Geez, no need for the rude language. Respect your elders," Sammy teased.
"Haha, old man," I taunted.
He gasped, splaying a dramatic hand across his hand.
"You're calling me old? HOW DARE YOU!"
We began to playfully punch and hit each other when we heard a disdainful scoff. When I looked up, it was Ari. She was in the same grade as me but for some reason, we never got along as well.
"What are you guys doing?"
"Just having some fun," Matt joked.
"Caleb would cry if he saw how immature you guys are acting!"
That brought a heavy blanket of despair over us, dampening the original lighthearted mood. I clenched my fists, wishing Caleb was here right now.
"Sorry," She said quietly. "Didn't mean to make you guys feel bad."
"You're alright. Besides, it's time to celebrate! Nicki has a love interest!"
I slapped Sammy's arm with a glare but Ari's lips tilted up.
"Ooh, who's the lucky duck?"
"Sammy apparently needs to get his hearing fixed. I don't like anyone!" I said defensively, frowning. "At least, I don't think I do."
"Then is there anyone you find really cute or attractive?" Ari needled me.
Mortifyingly, Blue (the street dude) came to my mind immediately. Those heterochromatic eyes were enough to make anyone-
AAAGGGGHHHH NO I DO NOT LIKE HIM NO NO NO! I calmly smiled at them pleasantly.
"No. Thanks for asking."
"You're a hopeless romantic," Ari teased. "With all those love stories you read, I'm pretty sure you'd gain a bit of charm from those cheesy lines."
I blushed, my ears burning in embarrassment.
"Excuse you, but I do not always ready love stories! I'm a mature man."
Matt and Sammy burst out in laughter, doubling over in mirth as I blushed even harder. Matt tried to compose himself, wiping his eyes from the tears that'd been in his eyes.
"Sorry, but that was just adorable. Our ototo a man?"
"Like that'll ever happen," Sammy joked.
"Oh shut up you two. I have this paper to do and you guys are very distracting for an ADHD person," I chastised.
"Fine then. Bye Nicki-chan!!!"
They left me to my own studies and I let my fingers hover over the keys, then remembered how that guy stood so tall and shot into the air. How he smirked at them, taunting them so easily while I just stood there. I clenched my fists and typed furiously. 'Stop thinking about that, you stupid stupid stupid idiot. Get him out of your mind now!'
Too bad that the guy whose name I didn't know will not ever leave my thoughts for a long long time.'
