Priya's Point of View
I was terrified! And more than that, I was numb. How can a child feel so many emotions? Maybe the creator injected feelings in us before we realized they existed.
With small steps and a shivering body, I opened the door. The whole room was so quiet. So dreadfully calm.
But I wasn"t concerned about that.
The sight that caught my watery vision was a body lying on the floor. My mother"s. Nothing hid the red bruises and cuts, except the red satin bed sheet draped over her body. A lone tear defied the brim of my eye and dropped on the floor.
"Mumma! " I screamed. But she didn"t respond. She looked like an ill-constructed moppet on the floor. So lifeless.
I tried to wake her up. Maybe she was sleeping. But, she didn"t even twitch.
