After thinking for a bit Gray told the city lord his true name. After all, it does not matter even if he lied because in this word nobody knows him so whatever name he will tell others will be his true name.
"I am Gray Agarwal. I am from the far west. I was very lucky to have meat a wandering knight and he accepted me as his student and he also told me stores about Magus. And after hearing my teacher I am wandering around to find the method of becoming a Magus."
After hearing this the City lord was a little skeptical but he didn't say anything about this to Gray and Said
"As I said before I am George Cox. I was a captain of a private army of a great noble family. One day the only son of that noble was attacked by an assassin and I risked my life to save him and as a reward, I received this position of the City lord. But I wasn't very satisfied with this position in a remote city and tried my best to obtain a mid-level breathing manual and because of that visited many places and read many books but as you can see I was unsuccessful but at the list, all my effort was not wasted because I did found something interesting, that is a diary of a Magus by luck. Although that Magus didn't write the exact process of becoming a Magus but from many clues, I found out many things about a magus."
After hearing to this point Gray was wondering why the city lord didn't try to become a magus.
Seeing Gray's bewildered expression the city lord laugh bitterly and said-
"you are tanking that why I am not a Magus already? Well, you will know the reason very soon. Because I already promised you that I will tell everything I know about Magus after you completed the mission I gave you."
Hearing Him Gray quickly took out the 5 wolf fang and give them to the city lord.
After receiving the fangs the city lord nodded and said these are indeed the fangs of 5 wolves.
So as promised I will tell everything I know- but before that let me tell you something there is a reason because of which there are so few magus amongst us so don't get your hopes up.
Although that person whom this diary belonged to wasn't a very high-level Magus, but he escaped here from the Mainland after making some very powerful enemies, so he knew many things about Magus.
According to his notes theoretically, anyone can become a Magus if they can find two things - one is a mind meditation technique and the other is a spell model and as for how far they can go on the path of magus depend on their talent and resources.
But it is not as easy as it sounds because Even if you have talent without resources you can't move a single step froward.
There are in total 7 ranks of Magus and they each rank divided by low, mid, and top-grade, which depend on how much Mental energy you have and what level spell you can cast. Although the strength difference between grades is not that great but the difference between ranks is so great that no-one even heard that in a fair match a lower rank Magus defeated a higher rank Magus.
And to increase your mental energy you need a Mind meditation technique. Meditation technique has low, mid, and high grades but even a low-grade mind meditation technique is hard to get because in the western continent they are in the hands of large families and they are very strict about its circulation, as for mid or high-grade meditation technique they can only be found in the mainland. With a low-Grade Mind meditation technique you can only become a rank 1 Magus after that it will lose effect and it is also very slow. it can take up to 10 years to increase your mental energy to the point where you can become a Rank 1 magus. Mid Grade meditation technique can help you to become a Rank 4 Magus and High Grade can promote someone to Rank 6 as for Rank 7 there was no mention of it.
As for spell models, these are some very complex runes which a Magus have to inscribe in their Mind palace, Just like Magus ranks spells also have ranks, Lowest is Rank 0 spells which are used by beginner Magus or Junior Magus, Rank 1 magus uses Rank 1 spell, Rank 2 Magus uses Rank 2 spell and so on.
As for Mind Palace, it is a mysterious space that appairs between a person's eyebrow when that person first time use the meditation technique, which also called the awakening and after this comes the concept of talent which is divided by 3 Grade first grade, second grade, and the last third Grade. Talent is measured by the size of the mind place. A third Grade talent has enough space inside their mind palace to inscribe two spell model, a second-grade talent can inscribe 4 spell model and a first-grade talent can inscribe 6 spells and because of the size of the mind palace, the amount of mantel energy one can hold also limited but to inscribe a spell model one needs meatal energy so it also takes longer to inscribe spell model for them who have lower talent. So talent is very important.
Talking to this point the city lord let out a sigh and said-
"Now as you can see you need a mediation technique, spell models, and talent to become a Magus, and even if you have the talent it is impossible to get your hands on Mediation technique or spell models if you not a core member of a family similar to the royal family."
After hearing this Gray's heart sank because it also impossible for him to get those and he also offended a noble family and if does not find a way to become stronger he will be found out sooner or later. Even if Gray had no danger he still doesn't want to become dirt after a few decades like everyone else, especially after coming this close to his goal. So he asked with cleansed teeth -
"Is there absolutely no other way to obtain a Meditation technique?"
Hearing the Question the city lord sighed again and said-
"Of course there are other ways but one depends on a huge amount of money and the other one depends on luck. Once every year one large ship comes from the mainland to the western continent for trade and to gather news. That ship has a mysterious barrier cast by a magus that protects it from the detection of monsters of the sees. I herd you can buy one sit in that ship for one million gold coin and the other one is to find an inheritance of a Magus which can only be found by luck not by searching."
After hearing this Gray finally relax a bit, although right now he doesn't even have 10 gold coin let alone one million but he is very confident he can make that amount with enough time. Thinking this Gray looked at the City Lord who looked like thinking about something and asked what is the fastest way to earn money.
Hearing the question the city lord looked Gray's eye for a few second and let out a sigh-
"If you are thinking about earning money for the ship then there is only one way to earn that much money, as a senior knight you can hunt the mutated beasts and cell their cores."
Hearing this Gray left after thanking the City lord. After leaving the castle Gray went to the place where he bought books when he first came to this city.
Seeing Gray the Old mad had no reaction and Gray assumed that the old man already forgot about him. He got close to the old man and asked if he has a map of The Griston Kingdom.
Hearing Gray's question the Old man looked at him and said-
"Yes I have a Map of our kingdom but that is not detailed and it costs 5 Gold coin, if you want to buy a detailed and updated map you have to go to a big city or an Auction of the Merchant alliance, there you can even get the map of the whole southern continent."
After hearing this Gray gave 5 gold coins to the old man and received an old map where only the big cities, Yellow zones, and red zones are mentioned. But that exactly what Gray was looking for. Right now he wanted to go to a yellow zone and gather as much beast core as he possibly can.
Because right now he only has 2 more gold coins after all his expenditure on food and hotel.
Thinking this Gray started walking toward the hotel he stayed, When he was entering he saw the girl who delivered food yesterday but without saying anything he went to his room and hung his crossbow to his back which he kept in this room after that he quickly left the hotel and walk toward the city Gate because it is dangerous for him to stay in Greenwood City any longer. But before leaving the city Gray bought a horse from a merchant for only 50 silver coins and left the city under the reverence gaze of the two guards and after exiting the city Gray looked back at this city. This is the first human settlement he visited after coming to this world so he said Goodbye and started heading toward the East.
