Chapter 1 - Crazy things we do

There are times we have to violate the law, go against rules and make sacrifices for people we care about and I guess this is one of those times because right now I'm standing outside of my school, 2am in the morning, planning to break in.

"I don't like this. I really don't like this."

I slowly detach my eyes from the huge faint blue painted building in front of me to my best friend, who has been worrying about this whole plan all night.

"Don't worry, it's going to be fine." I say in a cool voice in hopes that it will put her at ease.

She immediately snaps her head to me, causing her chestnut brown hair to move in such a dramatic manner as she shoots me a freaked out look.

"Fine? Sneaking into the school at midnight is fine?"

I roll my eyes with a sigh, turning to face her completely. I can't quite make out her facial expression because every where's so dark. If it isn't for the head lamp we are directly under, I won't see a damn thing but the tone in my voice tells me she really is freaked out.

"Jenny just calm down. There's nothing to worry about, the school's perfectly safe." I say, putting my hands out to reach her.

She looks back at the school with her face scrunched up and eyebrows furrowed then she turns back to me with a worried expression, her lips in a tight line.

"No Kinsley, let's just go home."

I quickly replace the sympathetic, understanding look I have on with a stern one, staring at her seriously.

There is no way I am going back home.

Even though the current situation is a little bit scary— two young teenage girls out all alone on the streets of New Oleen in the middle of the night; where not a single soul walks by or a car passes by apart from Jenny's black jeep parked behind them— but still.

"No Jenny, we are not going home until we do what we came here for." I say in a firm voice, straightening my black hoodie and re-adjusting my black gloves.

Jenny turns to me. "But do we really have to? We could just go home, Kinsley. Let's just go." She tries to pull me with her but I step back.

"Yes. We really have to do this, this is really important." I say with my eyes wide open to show her how serious I am about this.

She sighs with her hazel brown eyes begging for me to listen. "But think about it, every where's so dark with a few street lights, bad things could happen and we're all alone." She grabs my left arm and clings to me.

A smile creeps up my face as a thought pops into my head and I bare my teeth at her. "We're not alone as long as we have each other."

She shuts her eyes for a second, "Don't give me that line."

I groan as I grab her by the sides and shake her playfully. "You really have nothing to worry about, the school's perfectly safe. Besides who would be in school 2 in the morning?" I ask, looking back at the dark and quiet school building.

"People as crazy as us?" Jenny answers beside me and I turn to her, snapping a finger at her.

"And you're right. No one is as crazy as us." I smile sheepishly at her.

"I still don't like this Kinsley, we could get caught or get in trouble."

Oh hell… gosh, she worries a lot.

"We are not going to get caught or in trouble." I turn to her, moving my hands over the place, my eyes wide, trying to create emphasis. "There's literally no one to catch us. Goddammit. We are fine!"

I stand there for a moment, staring at her dimly lit pale face to see that she is not at all convinced.

"But what if my dad finds out I'm not home, you know how he could be sometimes."

"That is why we are going to do this as quick as possible. We just need to break in, find his locker, put his birthday present inside and get out. 3 minutes maximum." I said with a smug smile.

Jenny's face crumbles the more. "What if we get hurt?" she says in a little shaky voice.

"Oh my god," I sigh, exasperatedly.

All of the years I've been with Jenny, I've noticed that she is always very careful with every single thing, always thinking logically before she does something, never actually made a mistake, ever. I guess it is like that since she has such a strict father. She had no problem coming with me but I guess seeing how scary the school looks, she's second guessing.

"If it makes you feel any better, you don't have to go in with me, you could just go into your car and lock yourself, all secured." I say, forcing a bright smile at her.

I really need her here to back me up… and also to drive me back home.

She gives me a long look, her face still scrunched up in disagreement, "Is he really worth all this trouble?" She asks.

I smile as I shake my head, "Worth much more trouble. Now go to the car, I'll be out in 10 minutes." I say as I push her towards her car.

"You said 3 minutes!"

I immediately pick up the dark green duffel bag which contains all of the things I need for this plan to work. Ignoring Jenny, who is fervently calling my name, I begin walking towards my school doors. But then I stop when Jenny says something.

"If he makes you do all these things, then I'm not so sure I like him."

I turn to face her to find out she's already getting into her car. "Everyone likes him." I smirk.

I finally stop in front of the door and slightly bend towards the handle, reaching into my black jeans back pocket to pull out a pin. About to pick the lock, I notice the door moves a bit, signaling that it isn't at all locked or even goddamn shut! And I swear for a moment, I feel my heart stop.

"Oh my… the door wasn't locked?!" I hear Jenny's worried voice say behind me.

Knowing fully well that if she finds out the door is unlocked, she will freak out the more and insist we end this mission.

I slowly turn around to face her as I break into nervous bits of laughter. "What? Are you crazy?" I ask as I immediately cease my laughter and she gives me a look. I smile confidently at her and lift up the pin. "I'm just so fast in picking locks." I say and immediately walk inside, shutting the door behind me to avoid anymore questions.

I quickly smoothen out the non existent wrinkles on my black attire and pull out a flashlight from the green duffel bag, not forgetting to put my straight blonde hair into a messy bun at the top of my head. I stand there for some seconds in the dark hallway, letting a smile slowly form on my lips.

My sweet ass dream is finally going to come freaking true.

With that thought in my head, I confidently turn on the flashlight and begin sauntering down the hallway, swaying my hips confidently because I know I am finally going to get him to notice me and tomorrow— well today, in a few hours, he is going to, because I am giving him the best birthday present ever! And honestly, he deserves it. The school's one and only—

Adrian Price.

I've always liked him. He's sweet, always has a smile on and not to mention breathtakingly handsome with his tall, nice body.

I take a right turn making sure I don't hit the huge garbage can and continue swaying my hips.

The first day I set my eyes on him, was back in 6th grade. That day, I had been walking toward science class but then stopped in my tracks because I had seen a certain dark haired boy dressed in a yellow shirt with the best smile in the world, conversing with three other boys but there was no way I could talk to him because he was in the 7th grade– which meant different classes.

And is the same till now.

I stop right in front of the nurse's office, then point the flashlight in the left direction, letting it illuminate the halls which is aligned with dark blue lockers. I turn away from the nurse's office and continue my journey to Adrian's locker.

But that isn't the day I really started feeling a lot for Adrian.

He had graduated and was a freshman in high school. One day, my mom had to pick up a friend's son, who also happened to be a freshmen in the same high school as Adrian— Lennon. After she picked me up from school, we both went to Brice Worth High School and I saw that same dark haired boy, bright blue eyes with that amazing smile but he was taller and was definitely not wearing a yellow shirt. He was like a human glowing in angel's light, I had never seen a boy as gorgeous as him.

I immediately stop, frantically looking round the hallway with the aid of the small source of light and groan loudly, throwing my head back when I notice I just passed his locker. I do a 180 degrees turn and start moving back to Adrian's locker.
