Chapter 1 - The Beginning

....What happened?

Where am I?

Last thing I remember I was on my way to work and saw a truck on a collision course with a little girl and....

Am I in the the hospital?

No... this place doesn't have the uneasy, clean smell of a hospital.

The next logical conclusion would be that i am dead, i suppose.

Heh.. it seems i spent my life believing in the wrong thing, huh?

Now... just what is that blinding light over there?

"Congratulations, my lord!" Said the frail, old man, as I emerged from some sort of wet cavity.

"A healthy baby boy!" He gleefully announced.

I just came out of.... oh my God.

"My son! My Beautiful son!" Announced the merry nobleman.

The man, my father held me up to his face.

He wasn't ugly by any means, in fact he was quite handsome, if not a year or two past his prime.

He had thick, black hair and deep purple eyes that made you feel like your soul was being absorbed if you looked into them for too long.

"Honey! Honey! Give him to me!" The woman, who i am asuming is my mother, elatedly interupted our staring contest with an expression filled with joy.

As far as i could see, she was the very personification of beauty, an angel that had fallen down from heaven.

Her long, glistening auburn hair sat atop her head and her eyes, a rich hue of crystalline blue, seemed as pure as a fresh spring.

"Hehehe... My son... My child!" She squealed as she pulled me into a tight embrace.

Although i say embrace, due to my now infantile body, she sort of just happily tucked me into her bountiful chest.

My father pulled me from my mother's suffocating embrace, looking me straight in the eye."Remember this, my son.... ".

"You are Patrick Von Berlin, my, James Von Berlin's heir and future leader of the marquis house of Berlin".

I looked at him with confusion and a hint of amazement in my eyes, I was reincarnated as a marquis child!

Wait! Hold on! if nobles such as a marquis exist here, does that mean things like magic exist here too!?

I mean, that's how these things normally work right?

Suddenly I am washed over with a wave of fatigue.

Haha... I suppose this is the result of being a newborn.

**1 Year, 6 Months Later**

I CAN WALK!!!

Finally i can enjoy the freedom of owning a functioning pair of legs!

In the last 18 months since i have been reincarnated, nothing much has happened.

I mainly focused on trying to get into the library to try to find books on magic, but even when I got to the library, I couldn't find any magic books.

I did manage to get a picture book for learning the alphabet about a month ago though, so i can more or less read this world's language.

However! That all changed today!

The book titled 'A Begginers Introduction To Magic And It's Principles' has fallen into my hands!

I silently took it back to my room, fearful of making even the slightest sound.

I plop my plump, toddler body onto the bed and open the book.

After skipping through a bunch of introductory nonsense, i found the start of the useful information.

"Before one can use magic, one must first feel the mana flowing through the air and within their body....".

"To begin to sense the mana in the air is quite easy, all you have to do is sit and concentrate, attempting to feel and interact with the world around you in essence and not in body".

Slowly i rest myself against the frame of my bed and concentrate, attempting to sense that i cannot sense with my five perceptory organs.

Suddenly, i 'see' a vast cloud blue gas, floating boundlessly through the air.

Is this... Mana?

If i focus hard enough, i can see small particles amidst the excess of blue gas, about the size of a pin head or even smaller.

I open my eyes and continue reading the book, which by now i could tell would be very well used.

It spoke of the seven basic magic types of this world: strengthening, beast, earth, wind, fire, water and holy as well as some more obscure magic limited to certain bloodlines or powerful magus.

These obscure magics were spacial magic, temporal magic, light magic, darkness magic, crafting magic and curse magic.

Next was godly magic, magic you could only use if you were blessed by the gods, such as creation magic, tribulation magic, fate magic and true healing magic.

Listed after this was forbidden magic, sealed by the gods for their consequences, examples being necromancy magic and blood magic, as well as other types of magic that require sacrifices, such as demonic summoning magic.

Apparently, in this world, all children get tested for their magical aptitude at the age of five at the church, regardless of background.

I skipped a few pages forward, to the introductory section of fire magic.

"The school of fire magic relies of having a strong image of an explosion, a large amount of force or energy being applied to a single spot, forcing that energy outwards..."

"The most basic spell in the school of fire magic is [lucerna]."

"This spell creates a small flame, akin to a candle, capable only of lighting small, flamable objects on fire, such as cloth or tinder."

"The process of casting a basic flame spell is quite simple. All you need to do is gather your mana in to the end of your finger, and imagine it bursting forward, like an angry ox."

I immediately tried to cast [lucerna], gathering mana into the end of my index finger, and envisioning it emerging from the tip of my finger like a lighter.

"....[lucerna]" I muttered as a small stream of flame emerged from my fragile looking fingertips.

"I did it... I used magic!" I screamed, alerting the maids and caretakers to my unnatural acheivement by accident.

In this moment I absolutely scorned myself for being so damned loud.

"Pat! What is it!? What is... the.... matter...?" My mother squealed in terror at the thought of my being harmed, however, it seems the bright glow of flame streaming from my finger was a lot more shocking to her then i had first anticipated.

"Ha ha...."
