Ignis's Path to Power
It was the title of the story I read before I went to bed that day.
The story was about an annihalated Marquess family with the marquess' firstborn son, who was named Ignis Estella, to be the only survivor. Ignis was adopted by his father's most trusted aide Baron Gregory by his father's will, but then Baron Gregory wasn't as trustworthy as the former marquess thought him to be.
He was adopted only to rob him of his inheritance, for Baron Gregory was actually a greedy man. Unlike other nobles though, he didn't mistreat Ignis. However, he has sent assassins after assassins to deal with the poor heir of the Marquess Estella's house.
Ignis miraculously survived all of these attacks thanks to his god-given talent with mana and the sword, but of course, he can't just stand still.
He was young and naive so he never expected the main culprit to be the very person who took him in and the one who his father trusted, it was only after he saw the baron speak with an assassin while he was tracking the said assassin that he found out the truth.
Of course, this has broken his heart to pieces and he couldn't accept it at first but he gradually opened his eyes to reality.
He knew he wasn't safe at that baron's house, so after he graduated from academy, he ran away from home while being chased by the strongest assassin he has met so far.
He was still too weak to go against this certain assassin, which is why all he could dk was run, run and run, until he met his first love, Sheila Lunar, a drop dead gorgeous mage who saved him from the guy who was chasing after him.
He hid his identity, then joined the Mage's Order with Sheila's recommendation as the commander of this order. He joined this order even though he was also skilled with the sword all for his savior.
He went to war, and fought together with Sheila. He became stronger and stronger and also became more courageous, intelligent, and influential until he was able to take back his rightful assets.
It was the typical climax of an adventurous story, but the true climax was when he and the Mage's Order faced the corrupt, and shameless Duke Fernandez.
He did Ignis dirty, he never kept his word and even kidnapped Ignis's beloved to gain control of Ignis. The duke's plan worked on him, he did as the duke said so that the duke would release Sheila and when Sheila was released...
Ignis found out that Sheila was never abducted, rather, she turned herself to the duke on purpose because the duke offered her power, the true thing she wanted the most.
Ignis was frightened with her true nature, he was devastated. In the end, he could only fight against the duke.
He gathered the Mage's Order and trained them, and won against the fight with the duke. But many of his subordinates died, and he felt guilt for their deaths.
He was awarded by the emperor for exposing of Duke Fernando's corruption and bad deeds, and was also given the position of a Duke.
He had power handed to him, but he wasn't happy with it. Not because he wanted more or he wasn't satisfied with it, it was simply because he had nothing to make him happy. It was just him and the few members of the Mage's order who survived in the end.
For most, you can consider that kind of ending a happy ending since he won in the ending, but...
"ARRRGHHHH!!!" I growled, I was so angry with this story's ending.
I was so in love with the main lead and I badly wanted for him to have a happily ever after, he was every girl's ideal man, obviously he was my ideal man too, but to just give him such an ending...
"This is so unfair for him! He, at least, deserved a girlfriend but what did that bitch do to him... betray him!" I angrily shouted, I was super frustrated.
The male lead gave this female lead wannabe everything, even himself, but all she did was turn her back on him in exchange for power.
"Like, what a fucking bitch!" I shouted some more, I had to let off some steam from that incredibly frustrating end.
I tossed the book from my hand, plopped on my bed then hugged my favorite not-so-hard-but-not-so-soft-either pillow.
"Perhaps, if I just sleep it off, I'll feel better in the morning..." I thought, I knew my frustration won't go away that easily since I was so attached to this main lead, but it was worth a try.
"If I were Sheila I would have did everything I can for Ignis... I hope I was there to save him ins...tead..." I whispered to myself then I yawned and instantly fell asleep.
When I opened my eyes... I was in an odd place.
