Sebastian was sitting at his desk when he heard a commotion outside and one of his men came running inside. "What's going on out there?" James asked as he stood up from his seat. "Sir a woman is here on the horse you ordered to have put down" the man said and James went to the door.
He saw the young woman and remembered her along with 4 other women looking for a house. "Hello Sheriff James" Sara spoke and descended from the horse. Sara held the rope so that the horse can stay calm.
"How did you tame this horse?" Sebastian said inquisitively "I grew up riding and breeding horses Sheriff, I just used my skills to calm the horse down" Sara responded. Sebastian saw Jon out in the crowd and smiled.
He stepped forward towards Sara and the horse panicked a bit but Sara pat the horse on its side to calm it down again. Sebastian reached out his hand and Sara paused before taking it. Sebastian quickly glanced behind him to see Jon's face before helping Sara down from the horse.
Jon watched from where he stood with a tense look on his face and Serena showed up by his side. "It seems that she has taken a fancy to him" she said and Jon took a deep breath. "You know I would never do that" Serena said and Jon continued to look straight ahead.
"Is there a price for the horse?" Sara asked reaching for her pouch. Sebastian raised his hand to stop her "There is no price, you already proved that only you can ride this horse" he said and then turned towards the crowd.
"Everyone in this town knows that I am the best rider here" Sebastian said and the crowd agreed with him. Jon rolled his eyes but saw that Sara wasn't even paying attention to him at all which made Jon smile.
"Everyone also knows that in a few days time that the mayor will be holding a banquet for his wife's birthday and I ask if you were to accompany me that night" Sebastian said before everyone. Some people gasped others were jealous that he asked her and Jon clenched his fists.
Sara was caught off guard with Sebastian's invitation and looked around. She could see that everyone wanted her to say yes but then she saw Jon who turned around to leave. She felt something in her chest when he did that and felt sad.
Sara responded and raised her voice loudly for all to hear "I am honored that the sheriff took an interest in me" Sara then towards Jon "As I am grateful that you have given me this horse for no price, sadly I was already asked by another and I accepted his invitation to join him for the banquet".
Jon stopped and turned back towards Sara who was smiling at him. Jon smiled back at her, Serena looked at them both and she was fuming with anger. "Looks like your plan did not work" a woman said and Serena looked beside her and it was the seamstress Bernadette. Serna scoffed " I have no idea what you are talking about" and Bernadette chuckled "I suggest that you give up your quest on capturing Jon's heart" she said and turned her head towards Serena.
"This town knows that you have been after Jon for a long time but it seems that someone else has captured his heart" Bernadette said as Sara mounted the horse again and trotted away back to the house and Serena saw Jon walk in the same direction.
Bernadette grabbed Serena's arm before she could follow him "I am like a mother to Jon" Bernadette said and Serena tried to free her arm from the seamstress grasp. "Let me go" Serena said as she struggled but Bernadette's grip was like iron.
"Leave Jon alone, you already hurt him once" and Serena stopped fighting when Bernadette said that. "He already knows too what you did" Bernadette added and let go of Serena's arm before walking away.
Sara pulled on the rope signalling the horse to stop as they reached the house. She was about to mount off when she heard a voice behind her "Need a hand?". She looked behind her to see Jon standing there.
She smiled and Jon offered his hand to help her down, the horse nudged Sara from behind and Jon handed her an apple. "I just assumed he was hungry" Jon said with a smile and Sara took the apple and fed the horse.
"I was wondering when you were expecting me when to arrive to pick you up" Jon said and Sara's cheeks turned pink. "About that" Sara said sheepishly and Jon chuckled "Did anyone tell you that you look cute when you blush" he said which made Sara blush more.
Jon took her hand and bowed towards her "Sara would you do me the honor and accompany me to the mayor's banquet" he asked and Sara smiled. She curtsied and responded " I would be happy to", they were both laughing when the horse nudged Sara again. This time there was some force behind it and Sara was nudged forward, Jon wrapped his arms around to prevent Sara from falling. Sara had her arms around his neck for balance.
Sara looked up and her face was inches away from Jon's, they stayed like that for a few moments then Jon cleared his throat and they stepped away from each other. They both avoided eye contact for a bit "Do you need help with bringing the hose the back?" Jon asked as he was fidgeting with his hands.
Sara nodded her head and they brought the horse to the back of the house. Once Sara tied the rope to the tree that was closest to the house Jon hurried away as he was still flustered from before.
Sara went inside the house and went straight to her room, her heart was pounding when she closed the door behind her. Sara took a few deep breaths to calm herself but all she could think about was that moment. "Come on Sara it wasn't like we kissed or anything" she said to herself.
There was a knock on the door "Come in" Sara said and Elizabeth poked her head into the room "Is everything ok?" she asked and Sara nodded her head "Everything is fine" Sara said.
"Are you sure?" Elizabeth asked "Because your cheeks are red" and Sara placed her hands on her cheeks and it was warm to the touch. " I'm fine really" Sara said turning away from Elizabeth.
Elizabeth disappeared for a few moments and then returned with everyone in her room. Sara turned around saw everyone standing there and Sara was now more flustered than before.
"Guys really I'm fine" Sara said but no one was buying it "I only have one question" Isabelle said and Sara hoped the question was anything but the one she was thinking about. "Who's the lucky guy?" Isabelle asked and Sara was now cornered and told them everything.
