"School is such a joke right now honestly, I mean basically every test is a guaranteed 'ace'. I don't even do my homework at home anymore." Jerry told Quast while they were having their lunch break of sorts.
"We're in the same boat, buddy." Quast replied. "At least it's Friday."
"Oh yeah, I got the 2 geodes this morning, one was literally on my computer, and the other was outside in front of the apartment doorstep. Wanna know what was in them?" Jerry intriguingly asked.
"Of course I do, Jerry."
"Well the first one was only 100 Experience points, but check this bad boy out." A 1 centimeter tall and 2 centimeters wide coin was taken out from Jerry's inventory. "Looks really cool, I know." Jerry spoke like he had made it himself.
[Coin(Common)]
[This coin is just one of many, for it has been mass produced. The metal that it is composed of is not rare nor valuable in any way.]
"It may looks like a normal coin, but I bet it's made of a weird ass metal that isn't found on Earth called 'Turbinolium' or something." Jerry thought of the name on the spot. "And it has this weird purple gleam. Which brings me onto another question, how much do you think things from the system would cost in real life?"
"Eh.. hmm I don't know, I mean we gotta narrow down the target audience of people who want to buy things, normal people won't need any of this since they can't use it, maybe scientists can figure something out via some item somehow, then probably museums or something." Quast shrugged. "Probably a few grand from scientists for like Uncommon to Rare items depending on what the item is, would be my guess at least. Or maybe scientists would see these things as priceless and they'd actually cost millions?"
"What if there are other systems and they overflow the market, 0 profit." Jerry joked.
"Selling conspicuous things from the system might just lead to trouble, plus what fun is it doing that? Well, unless you're like really desperate for some shtones." "Wait have you even confirmed that other people can even hold things from the system?"
"No, no I haven't." the one holding the coin responded. "Oh there's Albert, let's try it."
"Hey Albert, catch!" Jerry shouted.
Albert turned towards him and studied his posture to see where the throw would come from, although Mana was not his strong suit, in fact it wasn't even close to being one of his fortes at all, he had very fast reaction time and was all around a naturally very smart person.
Jerry threw the coin a little too hard, but Albert didn't say anything and caught it, some luck being at play there.
"Woah dude, even I didn't expect that you'd throw it." Quast whispered.
"A coin?" Albert questioned, albeit a little confused. "What do you want me to do with this?"
"Throw it back to me." Jerry replied.
Albert tossed the coin with just enough power so that it would fall into the area where Jerry's hands were.
"I'm still confused as to what you wanted to accomplish."
"Well, you looked down." Jerry used that reason as a place holder, after all it was pretty obvious with all the available information about Albert's Mana prowess at hand, so he deducted.
"I've been hit with a harsh reality." Albert spoke. "And I was so happy that supernatural powers finally became real." he muttered to himself, then he spoke up "That reality is that I have zero affinity for an ability."
Quast and Jerry knew this, but it was still sad hearing it from the man himself.
"The first clue was when I took a glance at what that worker from Sylon had written on her clipboard, she literally wrote 'below average' in the Mana field. And to top it off I literally don't have an ability, I read a blog post which said that when a person gains an ability they immediately understand it, nothing like that has happened to me." Albert spilled his heart out to these 2 peers standing in front of him for some reason. "I'll just give up on everything and live a normal life, pretend like abilities never existed." he still didn't know why he told all of this to them.
"Damn." both the listeners commented.
"You really spoke your heart." Jerry, the one who started this entire scenario said, and walked up to Albert to put a hand on his shoulder "Hopefully things get better." and then he walked away, until the realization struck that he was in the same class as Albert so turning back and walking to their classroom was the only option.
Albert didn't know how to answer.
After there was no one there anymore, Albert looked at the hand with which he had caught that weird coin, a peculiar feeling filled him.
"School day over, time for quests." Jerry proclaimed.
"Sure is. Let's just go there right now and get it over with." Quast put forward the idea.
"I guess we could like run over there real fast, but can you even match my speed?" Jerry said, then tried to reason it out, at the end they decided that it would be for the best to not rush it and leave their things at their respective homes and then come to the forest as fast as possible.
Quast's parents were still at work so he left them a note in case they returned before him, which would be highly unlikely, but still better to take precautions.
Jerry's mom was at home so he told her that he's going out.
"Say Jerry, what are you doing outside so much?" she asked.
"Training." Jerry said and gave a big smile, it wasn't a lie, but not exactly the truth either. "I've started seeing improvements in strength as well."
"So you just train your strength?" his mother questioned.
"Yeah, I run to the forest and back." it was the truth, but not the entire truth.
Jerry's mother had no reason to not believe him, after all she saw him doing pushups and whatnot from time to time in his room.
Quast arrived 20 minutes after, but Jerry had not wasted his time just waiting, he scouted the area for another spot, because there was no certainty that their original forest spot wasn't under surveillance.
"I think I've found a successor to the original quest place. Follow me."
After walking for 4 minutes they arrived at a site that resembled the old one with quite an astonishing amount of accuracy, but it wasn't the same.
"Alright let's get the quests started." Quast declared.
"Hell yeah." Jerry enounced.
