Her heart sank, it has happened again.
Scarlett was still in shock that she didn't even realize Jasper was checking her body for injuries.
She thought he was special but it turns out he was no different than the other men.
Jasper was worried over Scarlett's unresponsiveness, it seems the incident shocked her to the core. Her face was white with her eyes locked onto that spot he would have been hurt had she not reacted on time.
"I'm okay" she finally answered him, getting to her feet with his help. He picked out the specks of dirt from her hair and scanned her body meticulously for injuries she might be hiding from him.
That moment, people who had heard the heavy thud began to gather around them with sharp gasps and shock apparent on their faces. The picnic table was crushed beyond recognition. ThankGod the couples weren't harmed.
Jasper had never thought about how he would die, but being stomped by a branch that was big enough to form another tree had never crossed his mind.
"You saved my li.." Jasper trailed off when he realized his date for the night was nowhere to be found.
He was confused," Scarlett? Scarlett?" Jasper searched around but he couldn't find her.
Her disappearance left him bewildered, when and why did she leave? He didn't even have the chance to take her home.
Jasper believed he would go crazy with the numerous thoughts in his head.No matter how much he mulled over it, he couldn't see the reason why she would leave without a goodbye.
Did he do anything wrong during their date, he pondered. But she had not shown any discomfort during the time they spent together, if anything she had indulged him willingly.
On the other hand, Vivian was at home chilling with her popcorn and watching movies when she heard a loud beep indicating someone had come into the apartment after inputting the password.
That must be her sister, she reckoned and jumped out of the couch to go meet her, anxious to hear how her night had gone. Yes, she disliked that rich boy but she still wanted the gossip.
She eagerly ran towards the direction of the passage, "How did the night g…."
Vivian was startled at the sight of her sister who was drenched like a wet rat, had it rained? She didn't notice the weather change earlier since she was occupied with her movies.
Scarlett's hair plastered to her skull like a second skin and it dripped water with her wet clothes clinging to her body.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Are you so poor you can't afford an umbrella and where's that date of yours, how could he allow you to walk in the rai….?" Vivian faltered as soon as she took in her sister's red and swollen eyes with trembling lips.
She had been crying? Oh my God, it dawned on her.
Vivian gulped "It happened, didn't it?"
Scarlett nodded, then burst into tears that gushed out like a waterfall. Her knees couldn't assist her anymore so she slid to the ground but her sister walked over to her and wrapped her arms around her.
"I'm so sorry Scarlett" she mumbled while the girl cried her heart out.
"I thought he was the one" she sobbed on her sister's shoulder; deep sobs that wracked her body.
"It's okay" Vivian comforted her but she didn't want to hear it.
"When is it going to be okay? When I die unmarried? Or grow old without knowing a man?" Scarlett pulled back, staring into her sister's eyes.
"What did I do so wrong? What crime did I commit to being bestowed this kind of fate?"
"Hey" Vivian clasped her cheeks," We would find a way out of this, alright?"
"How? You guys keep telling me that but so far, nothing's been done!" She retorted in an angry outburst.
Scarlett was so sick and tired of getting her hope up and getting them squashed like toothpaste.
"We are going to figure this out, alright?" Vivian told her with determination, "Alright?"
Scarlett nodded in acknowledgment at last before she was pulled in for another hug.
"At the moment, just stay away from Jasper. We don't want anything happening to him" Vivian instructed her.
Scarlett sighed and to crown it all, Jasper's call came in at that exact moment which she ended without a second thought.
It was better she quit this blossoming connection before their bond got deeper and harder to break.
Vivian helped make hot chocolate for Scarlett after she washed and changed out from her wet clothes. She sat beside her on the bed and watched Scarlett fall asleep while running her hand through her locks soothingly.
She loved and treasured her sister so much that it hurt her seeing her in pain. Scarlett was the only family she had in this city since their parents were in the countryside.
Her attention was caught when her sister's phone lit up - it was Jasper. Fifty missed calls and twenty unanswered messages.
With a sigh, Vivian took the phone and went through her sister's contacts, blocking Jasper's number with immediate effect.
Her sister has been hurt enough, she would not allow her to go through this pain again.
