After calming herself down, Nicole looked up facing Leo. She realised that he was a little afraid of her at that moment. Even she was afraid of herself right at that moment. She had no idea what was going on with her, especially with her body.
Just now, she felt like she had really become one with another person. She had that dream again and this was the second time but it felt more real than the previous one. Who was that woman and why did she always have the feeling that she had stolen something from her?
Standing up to her feet, she took the trench coat of Leo and said to him, ''there is somewhere I need to go to''
''I will send you'' Leo picked up his car keys from the table.
''No, I can go alone''
''Nicole, have you looked at yourself in the mirror? Your face is so pale, if you weren't someone I am close to, trust me I would have ran away from you by now because I am scared of what is happening to you''
''There is someone I need to go and see'' she finally accepted his request. He was right after all. She didn't look her best at that moment.
''Who?''
''Detective Gail''
''That detective Gail again?''
''Mm, he is probably the only one who will tell me the truth to my face. He must know what is happening to me''
''I will do that but I must sit in on the conversation too. I want to know what is going on too''
''Fine'' Nicole wore the coat before they walked out together.
Priscy walked out of her office, speaking with someone on the phone, ''they just left the office. I told you there was something weird about that woman. Alright, call me if you find something''
…..
Pulling over in front of the district police station, Leo got down first before going over to open the door for Nicole. He held her hand and helped her to get down from the Jeep.
''Wait here, I will go and get him for you'' he said to Nicole and she nodded her head. She leaned against the car and gazed upon the sun that had come out. It was calming her down a little and made her feel less cold.
A distance away from her, Ray had parked his car by the roadside and was looking at her. He was determined to find out her secret. He was still not over the fact that he couldn't get rid of her. He was going to find out her secret and then use it to get rid of her. He couldn't accept the fact that there was someone he couldn't do anything too.
Soon, Detective Gail followed Leo out of the police building and walked towards Nicole. He smiled as he stood in front of her.
Detective Gail looked at Nicole with a sly smile which looked like he was somewhat mocking her, he said to her, ''coming here to meet me, it must be important''
''Can we find a place and talk?'' Nicole asked him.
''Sure, but he isn't going to be there''
''I am not leaving her side'' Leo said and placed his arm around Nicole's shoulder.
''He could sit in on our discussion, but will be still be willing to stay by your side once he finds out what is happening to you? You came because something is wrong with you, right?''
''Leo…''
''No, I am not leaving you alone'' Leo cut her short.
''That is so touching. This human boy is quite the loyal one, huh?'' Detective Gail said in a sarcastic way.
''Leo, I will call for you when he tries anything funny''
''Don't tell me you two are already in love and inseparable? That would be such a tough decision for you to make later on, Nicole. You and I know it's not possible between the two of you'' his words were encrypted and only Nicole knew the meaning behind them.
''What is he talking about?'' Leo asked and turned to Nicole.
''Leo, we will be at the café across the street. Please, wait here for me'' Nicole said and turned to Detective Gail, 'let's go''
''I will sit a table away from you, then. There is no way I am leaving your side, Nicole. I am serious''
'Alright, let's go then'' Leo held Nicole's hand as they walked away.
Looking at them in front of him, Detective Gail had an unreadable expression but even with that, it was clear he wasn't the least happy by the latest development either.
As they walked across the road, he turned towards the car of Ray and curved his lips into a sly smile. He had seen him since he came out of the station. He chuckled softly. He couldn't believe that fool was really determined to die in his own tracks.
Once they entered the café, Leo sat a few tables away from them and ordered a soft drink while Detective Gail ordered a hot black coffee with no sugar or cream for himself and Nicole.
''Trust me, this will help you than any other drink you take right now'' he said to Nicole when he saw the doubt in her gaze.
''Tell me the truth or I will kill you'' Nicole said.
''Wow, finally revealing your true nature, are we?'' Detective Gail chuckled and Nicole furrowed her brows. 'I knew you would come to me once this starts happening to you''
''When we first met, you told me about a load of crab, about a dark shadow hovering around me, eating my life gradually, then I found out it was a lie because that dark shadow was as a result of the bracelet that was stolen from the woman he eats souls. I found out it had nothing to do with the people I had the accident with. Then, you told me that I was going to end up using my life to save Leo which I doubt is the truth either. Just how much of what you've told me so far is a lie and which one is the truth, Detective Gail or should I say, Azar?''
At the mention of that name, Detective Gail smiled and looked at Nicole, ''looks like I don't need to hide behind him anymore; since you've figured out who I am?''
''Do you think I don't know what you did to me the last time at this same place? I know you want to possess my body and become a full human being again, but let me tell you. that will never happen''
''Off course, I wanted your body but that was before I found out that you didn't really have a body at all. You must have seen the real body already, right?''
''What?''
''You are not a living being, Nicole. No, let me reframe that. You are not a person with a body, so there was no way I could have taken over your body. That day, since that day. I've often wondered why I couldn't find an entry into your body. Turns out you didn't have a body after all. What is giving you this façade is that bracelet and the only reason why everyone thinks you are actually human is because you are living a borrowed life and on borrowed time''
The waiter brought their mugs of coffee and placed them down before going back.
''What nonsense are you spouting again? I was wrong to come here in the first place'' Nicole stood up and Detective Gail placed his hand on hers and asked.
''See, do you feel that?'' his hand couldn't hold hers.
''What was that?''
''The real you. You are just a soul living on borrowed time and place. Everything you see here might feel real but they are all just the world that your subconscious mind has created and now the two worlds are colliding because you came in touch with the people living in both worlds. Nicole, technically speaking, you don't belong to this world. You are on the path of sinful redemption''
''What load of crap. Do you think I will believe anything that you are saying to me? You are just trying to get me worked up''
''Didn't you also feel it before, that there was something wrong with you? Your body temperature is acting up because you are getting a conscious awaking of the difference between the two worlds. The real world, where your body is still in a lifeless state and this world where you feel that you are actually living. This kind of life is known as the life of sinful redemption; meant for people who committed grievous sins in their lives. I am curious about the number of lives that you stole to be put through this kind of subconscious state''
Nicole's hand quivered as she held the mug to sip. She drunk it all not caring about the hotness of it. To her, it was like she was drinking ordinary water.
