The Captain noticed that. "The dog has more discipline than half of you," he said quietly, but his voice was still somehow louder than the hundreds of rowdy individuals bellowing at the top of their lungs.
In the whole room, it was only the Captain and his officers that still remained dignified. He, on his feet, his expression unreadable and his officers flanking him, their faces dark with anger as they looked ready to cut down the men nearest them.
"But Captain, you can't mean to allow this? The Earl insults us with his promotion of a mere hound! Are we going to allow this insult to stick with us forever?" The same bearded giant spoke, leaving his table for the central aisle, standing opposite the Captain, at the bottom of the stairs, confronting him directly.
The Captain looked past him, as though he did not exist.
"Ermos Windbreaker," he said calmly. "Will your dog follow my commands?"
