"And I also know where I will never dare to look," Pash replied, "begone now. You've overstayed your welcome."
And then the devil did go. It vanished like a hallucination. Pash's vision trembled as though dizzy and in the next moment, the body was back on the floor, exactly as it was mere moments before. There was no sign of their conversation. No sign of it ever moving. The bloody footprints had vanished from the floor entirely.
"…You talking to yourself, boy?" Harkin asked, appearing at the door frame, a look of concern on his face.
"I was wondering how she died," Pash admitted, knowing that the best way to avoid the whole truth was to share a part of it.
"Tripped and fell," Harkin said bluntly, "nothing more to it… Is this your first looking upon the dead?" He asked and a hint of understanding crept into his voice.
Pash merely nodded.
