As they died, so too did the last of Ermos' hopes. He had no more pain left to feel after the disaster of the closed cave, and so, he almost laughed. It was too ridiculous, too cruel.

"Well, at least it's not raining," he said, chuckling to himself.

And then rain it did. The first fat droplet of the summer storms, it landed right upon Ermos' head, and then an army of others followed straight after it. Within seconds, they were completely drenched. Then, Ermos did cry, for the rain could hide his tears. But as he cried, he began to laugh, for tears could not express enough what he felt.

Thunder cracked above and Fingers howled at the sky, joining his master in his battle against the very gods themselves. Like mad men, they laughed and howled, acknowledging the jokes that had been played upon them.

"No more money for food, Fingers," Ermos said with a grin. It had been a while since he'd gone hungry.
