Chapter 69 - A New Todoroki

"What do I do?"

Shotos POV

I was in shock. My hands were shaking. It was all a cruel reality.

"Calm down Icy Hot. All you can do now is go to the hospital and wait." Katsuki seemed calm, but you can hear the sadness in his voice.

"Wait?" I chuckled, now I was getting mad. I don't know for what reason, but I just couldn't help it.

"For how long Katsuki?!" I turned to look at him tears uncontrollably running down my face. Tears of sadness, anger, of being worried.

"WELL YOU COULD EITHER GO BE WITH YOUR FAMILY OR KEEP SITTING HERE WHINING." Katsuki yelled back.

"just go be with your family for fuck sakes." After that Katsuki walked away. Even though he was yelling, I know he meant well. I sighed, wiped away my tears and ran to the hospital in my now dirty hero costume, its a good thing I have an extra pair of clothes at the hospital.

After I got back to the hospital. I was met with Deku in the waiting room.

"O-oh, Shoto!" He nervously stood up with with sweat dropping from the side of his face.

"Have you heard anything about (y/n)?" I ignored his greeting and got straight to the point.

"Um n-no. I'm sorry. " Midoriya looked down with sadness covering his face as I sighed.

"Is Shoto Todoroki here?" I heard the nurse call from the door that led to the hospital rooms.

"Yes right here" I immediately walked over to the short lady as she pulled me into the back rooms to start taking to me.

"Alright,  the good news is that your baby is healthy and safe. The bad news is that your wife is currently in ICU. It seems that the birth was very rough on her, almost killing her from the inside. " The nurse sadly looked down. A lot of people seemed to be doing that today.

My eyes once again were getting watery.

"Do you know when I'll be able to see her again?" My voice was cracky, I couldn't even hide my sadness if I tried.

"Unfortunately that's hard to tell at the moment. But you can see your daughter if you'd like, maybe give her a name as well." The nurse smiled at me.

"Yes. Yes I would love to see my daughter." I smiled to myself, she would be the only piece of (y/n) I have right now, but at the same time, it didn't feel right holding her without (y/n) at my side.

"Alright, right this way."

After a few hallways over, the nurse led me into a room with a little baby girl wrapped in a small blanket, and she also had a small pink hat on making her look adorable.

"Here you go." The nurse handed me the baby girl with a smile.

As soon as I held her I already started seeing (y/n)'s features in her. She had her nose and her ears, and she had small streaks of white hair barely showing through her small hat. At the sight of fully seeing my child for the first time a single tear came down my face without me even knowing, and at the moment I made a promise to myself and the little girl, that I would protect  her no matter what the cost, even if my life was ever on the line, I would put her first before anyone and anything.

"Mr. Todoroki?" I was interrupted from my thoughts when the nurse tapped me on the shoulder.

"Oh I apologize, yes?"

"Haha no need to apologize, I was just going to ask what you'd like to name her?" I looked down at the sleeping baby in my arms.

"Hm a name." I thought for a moment.

"How about Akari?" (I like that name lol your free to change it if you don't)

"Oh what a lovely name! I'll let you fill out the birth certificate" the nurse smiled at me and left the room to go get papper work.

As soon as she left, I started thinking about how much I missed (y/n). She was always by my side. I held Akari closer to my chest.

"Please get better soon (y/n)... please. I need you and so does our daughter."

After about an hour sitting in the hospital room still holding Akari, I found myself not wanting to leg go, in fear that she would be taken by villains just like (y/n) was.

"You feeling better icy hot?" Katsuki came into the hospital room with a smirk on his face seeing me hold Akari.

"Not exactly, but knowing she's healthy makes me feel a bit better" I smiled at the infant still sleeping in my hands.

"You picked a name?" It was odd hearing Katsuki try to be quiet for once just for Akari's sake.

"Yeah, I named her Akari... I hope (y/n) likes it." My smile turned into a frown as soon as I thought of (y/n).

"Hey, don't get all mopey now!" Katsuki whispered yelled.

"Sorry." Was all I said.

"Stop apologizing too!" He whispered yelled again.

Suddenly Katsuki became quiet for a moment making me look up at him. He looked nervous but was trying not to show it.

"Do you need something?" I calmly asked.

"Tch, um, can I hold her?" He asked  hesitantly.

I thought for a moment. I was scared to give her to someone else. But Katsuki been very supportive since the beginning.

"Sure, but sit in a chair and wash your hands."

"Im not a damn kid you know!" Kastuki said as he made his way over to the sink to wash his hands.

"Right." I chuckled with barely a smile on my face.

.....

Later that night I was told that I was allowed to take Akari home the next day in the morning, so I quickly went home to prepare everything... but nothing just didn't seem right without (y/n), I should be doing this with her. Why did things have to be this way? I sighed and continued preparing. The nurses were telling me all about about milk and formula for her. I also made sure to set up the car seat the right way, and after that I rushed back to the hospital and walked back to the baby section once again.

"Shoto." I was stopped in the hallway by my old home room teacher  Mr. Aizawa.

"Oh Aizawa sensei hello." I bowed down.

"heh, no need for the formalities kid, how have you been holding up?" Aizawa was still in his hero costume, it seems that he may have been guarding the place since the incident.

"Alright." Was all I said, I mean what else could I say? Aizawa sighed.

"Be honest with me kid." Aizawa started walking with me to the baby section.

"Hard." I honestly spoke, while looking to the side.

"I bet, you've got a lot on your plate. But I can relate with you, newborn child, no wife by your side to help you."

"(Y/n)'s still here." I reminded him. It makes me angry when people talk like she's dead. I can't imagine it.

"I know. But with the circumstances, it looks like you'll be taking care of your baby by yourself for a while." He wasn't wrong. It's just something that I didn't want to hear right now.

"Did you want something?" I said a little harshly.

"No, but there's something you might want." Aizawa sighed once again.

"What is that?" We now both stopped walking and were looking at each other.

"Since I'm a pro hero and my mission is to guard (y/n)'s room, that means I have access to her room." My eyes widened at his comment.

"W-wait are you saying-" Aizawa wrapped his scarf around my mouth.

"Just follow me."

"But what about Akari?" Aizawa looked at me.

"Hawks and endeavor are guarding her door, I assure you she couldn't be safer right now." Aizawa gave me a small smile.

"Dad?" I mumbled to myself.

"Yes, now follow me before it's too late." I nodded and thanked him and then quickly followed.

"Alright here you go kid, you've got 15 minutes make it count." Aizawa whispered to me then left me alone with (y/n). I slowly walked over to her.. she looked pale. She had a troubled look on her face making me frown. She was hooked up to many machines, and had an oxygen mask on. I went to pull up a chair next to her bed. The beep of the machine letting me know that her heart was still beeping. And honestly that's all I needed right now.

"Hey." I said in almost a whisper. I knew (y/n) couldn't hear me, but I still kept talking.

"Our daughter... shes beautiful, she has your nose and ears. My white hair, maybe she will have an ice quirk but I know its too early to tell. I also named her Akari, I hope your okay with that... I thought it was a pretty name. She's been really good so far, barely cries, but maybe that's because she was only born yesterday. I also get to take her home tomorrow, but it just doesn't feel right doing it without you, but until I can take you home too, I promise I'll protect her and take good care of her. Please (y/n)... please get well soon. Me and Akari both need you." By the end of my little speech to (y/n) I was left crying again. I'm not usually the one to cry, but it seems all I've been doing for the day. I just wanted my family to be together and healthy.

"Shoto..." my eyes widened when I heard (y/n)s voice, I went to gently grab her hand.

"(Y/n)?!"

"I love the name... don't worry about me, Just take care of Akari.. I love you." After that I couldn't hear her words anymore, it seems that she have fallen back asleep from the meds.

"Of course, I love you too." I smiled at her and stood up not realizing the 15 minutes were almost up. Before I left, I tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead.

"Get well soon love." And with that I left with a smile on my face, happy that I got to talk to (y/n).

"Thank you again Aizawa sensei."
