A/N: So this is the last chapter, guys. There will be a book two/sequel.
"The fuck are you doing?"
I stare at Jason as he stares at the chimney.
I step down from the last step of the staircase now decorated along with the rest of the house in christmas decor.
"Waiting for Santa Claus" he replies blankly, his eyes not moving from the chimney. I don't think he's even blinking.
Is he really 18?
"You do you, I guess." I shrugged and went into the kitchen.
There was a glass of milk next to a plate of cookies on the counter.
Cookies.
Just as my fingertips were about touch one of those delicious cookies, Leila appeared out of nowhere and hit my arm away.
"Don't touch! Those are for Santa."
"But I'm hungry" I whined.
"So am I but you don't see me stealing someone else's cookies, do you? Now get your ass back upstairs." she says and points upstairs.
At the corner of my eye, I see Leila grab one of the cookies and take a bite as I walk upstairs.
On my way to my room, Heather came out of Jason's room.
"It's Christmas Eve, why do you looks so down?"
"Leila won't give me any cookies." I pout.
"I'll sneak some up for you." she says, smiling.
She pats my shoulder and walks downstairs.
------
I sat on my bed looking at the gifts Heather and Jason got me.
Heather got me a new camera. I can't believe she actually remembered that I'm into photography and needed a new camera.
Jason got me an Off White hoodie.
Leila said my gift's in her car.
As I was putting on the hoodie Jason got me, Leila came in. She was holding the gift behind her back, which was a rather futile attempt seeing that it's a bit large.
She rests the gift on my bed and nodded towards it.
"Open it." she said with a cheeky grin.
"Holy shit dude" I breathed.
"That's not all." she added.
She removed her other hand that I didn't even realize was still behind her back and revealed a set of paints and paint brushes.
------
Leila and I leaned back a little to admire our masterpiece.
The brand new guitar was now covered with purple flowers and leaves.
"Now you have to try it out." Leila said putting the freshly painted guitar in my arms.
"You can't keep your feelings about Heather and Jason bottled up forever. Sing it out or something." she adds.
I take a deep breath and started singing.
"I still remember third of December
Me in your sweater, you said it looked better
On me, than it did you, only if you knew
How much I liked you, but I watch your eyes
As she walks by
What a sight for sore eyes
Brighter than the blue sky
She's got you mesmerized
While I die
Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester
But you like her better
Wish I were Heather-"
I got cut off by someone.
"Sophie? What do you mean you wish you were Heather?"
I turned around and there he stood, with his eyebrows scrunched up together in confusion, though the look in his eyes tells me he knows what I mean.
Jason.
Well shit.
"You like me?" Jason continues.
"I-"
Leila puts an arm on my shoulder, whispers, "You got this." and walked out.
"Y-yeah."
"I know you don't like me that way and when you told me you were dating Heather I tried to get over my feelings. I don't want to ruin my friendship with you and Heather so please, please forget about this." I say quickly.
Without giving him a chance to say anything, I quickly grab my phone and ran outside.
After I felt like I was far enough from the house, I looked up and realized I'm at the park.
I sigh and sit against a tree. I pull my knees against my body and wrap my arms around them. Before I knew it, tears were streaming down my face and sobs were tearing at my throat.
I tried to control my tears as I hear footsteps approaching. The footsteps grow closer and then stop.
"Are you okay?"
------
Wish I were Heather
(Oh, oh)
Wish I were Heather
Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester
But you like her better
Wish I were
