"Wait up!" Cried tails as he propelled himself to his friend. He and sonic raced playfully through green hills. The sun began to grow to dawn. Once they crossed a mark in the road at a tie, they stopped running and tumbled into the grass, panting with laughter. After what seemed like ten seconds they got back on their feet and looked at each other. Tails was suspicious. "Sooo... how long have we been egg free?"
Dr. Robot-nick hadn't attacked their base in two months. "Forget about it," sonic waved at the thought. "Maybe he decided that his toys finally were not cracked up to be-"
"What I mean to say is that he may be getting stronger as we speak. Rumor has it that... well it's about time you knew about the realms."
Sonic tapped his foot impatiently.
"Come on, tails. We all know that it's just a fairytale."
"Wait! listen! there will be things that have the strength to kill a thousand men in a single blow."
"Jeez, tails, you're overreacting. Besides, I'm sure we could still outrun them if they were real right?" Tails didn't answer. He seemed bemused in horror.
"Tails-"
"No!"
A loud crack split the air followed by an explosion that caused them and their surroundings to launch. Into a blinding light
"Owwww!" Sonic's eyes fluttered open "tails?" No answer. He sat up and rubbed the wet off his brow and saw blood on his glove. Ahead of his double vision it was even worse. His friend lay motionless next to him with a deep red stain on his back. "TAILS!" Sonic shouted as he struggled to his knees, crawled to his bloodied friend and rolled him face up on the ground. The fox's eyes were closed tightly and with a silent whimpering, they slowly opened. "Oh my God, tails I'll get help!"
"No, sonic... I'm so sorry."
"It's gonna be okay! No. NO! Don't-"
But his eyes remained fixed on sonic as he left. his last faded breath trailed with him.
"No!" Sonic wailed as he reached out to close them.
Through his sobs he heard an evil laugh.
"Finally! I've done it!" It was the egghead himself.
"You..." Sonic's fists clenched with rage.
"I can make all your pain go away." Sonic's anger grew from every word robot-nick spoke.
"Soon I'll be able to gain the power of the realms and watch them burn One by one. I'm just one step closer. All I have to do is finish you off. Who's going to save you now hedgehog!?
But with a shouting cry the speed demon had turned to dark sonic. And grabbed his foe by the lapels. "YOU ARE SO DEAD!" He boomed. And with that he threw egg man 99% into orbit with one launch until he was no more than a speck in the sky.
A loud silence rang in his ears followed by a throbbing sensation as he turned back into his original form. He buckled to his knees. And with a groan he collapsed from loss of blood.
