Chapter 8 - Chapter Seven

Dead men tell no tales

That is it. Joel thought to himself, he did not want to believe the fact that he was really in another realm or what ever it was. Everything was not normal, his father being a devil as he was and his mother not siding with her children whatsoever. Mavis, his sister was never closer to him. She was always keeping herself to her phone, not even bothering to check on him until she's asked to.

Now he has been pulled into the unknown and he did not know what do. The stranger of a man or so he thought he is has been here for only God knows how long and never made any attempt to escape which was so irritating but who knew, he had a better reason.

Joel thought about how shaka was doing, how he was going to react to his disappearance. Everything started to fuse back to one piece. He recalled the king being shot by an arrow and how he blacked out after that. To him, the realm was a puzzle but now what he thought was important that he found his way out.

Joel was deep in his thought that he did not realize the man was standing right in front of him. "What is going on" Joel asked.

"Shhhh...come with me"

"You know it is late?" Joel whispered. "I don't even know what the time is and how am i supposed to trust you, you never told me your name?" He finished.

"Dominic. But you can call me Dom".  Dominic paused at the door and turned to look at Joel. "Can you give me the keys you took from the guard?"

Joel looked at him like he was going  crazy until it all made sense to him. He took out the keys and handed it to Dominic. As Dominic gently unlock the door, Joel thought if that was his only chance of escaping, then he better not blow it up. He had try to come up with a plan but to no avail and now that he's gotten the chance.

Before Joel could think of what he was going to do, Dominic had already opened the door and was peeking his head to see if there is any sign of guards. After he had seen no guard, he turned to face Joel and whispered to him.

"I'm only going to show you the kingdom's plains and other territories. Whatever you are going to do to escape is in your hand but when you are caught, we are enemies". Dominic turned back to face the door and started walking.

Joel silently followed as he went back deep into his thoughts. He took notice of the environment. They walked on the cold corridor floor of empty chambers on either side. The dungeon smelled like rusted metal and rat passed by like they were having a feast. Joel and Dominic walk in the dark dungeon with the only noise coming from their footsteps until they found unending stairs which lead to a large iron bound door.

"You know if we would have to ascend this stairs, you would have to carry me. What kind of human will ascend this?" Joel said as he stopped to look at the spiral staircase which had cracks.

"The kind of human who is helping you escape. Now shut up and follow silently.  The least sound you make will send guard flying on us" Dominic shook his head and started ascending.

After what seemed like eternity to Joel, they finally arrived at the iron bound door. Dominic gentlely inserted the keys in ignition but the door didn't open. He tried a few keys but to no avail.

"Now what?" Dominic sighed and slipped on the door to the floor.

"Who ever thought a strong man you would give up easily" Joel took the keys from Dominic, looked through them and snapped his fingers. Dominic watched in surprise as Joel inserted the keys into the hole, turned it severely until it clicked. He held the door handle and slowly the door creaked open.

"How were you able to do that?" Dominic whispered as he quickly stood up.

"I watched them in movies I guess". Joel replied with a smile on his face. "Now can we leave this place already, I feel like I'm going to throw up?" He continued, making way for Dominic to take the lead.

"Movie huh....how fascinating. You should tell me more about the movie thing" Dominic didn't wait for Joel to respond as he slipped through the door and came to a halt. He peeked through the door and placed his finger on his lips gesturing Joel to stay silent.

"Shh...there are two guards standing in the open" Dominic whispered to Joel.

Joel slowly and silently slipped through the door and was stunned by what he saw. In the vast open was houses which he was able to make out the number with one guard standing in front of every one of them. The small house were chronologically in order illuminating in the moon light. Far across the houses was what looked like a Palace just like that of the other tribe. The only difference was this palace is more bigger and had two stories.

Joel looked past the houses where a river lay behind and saw trees. Trees which he thought was his only refuge. He looked at the two guards Dominic had hinted him of and noticed they were asleep when their work was to guard the dungeon gates.

' But why would the two guards sleep whiles the others guarding every house stay on the watch' Joel could not stomach the thought of it as he scrutinised the area.

"Look at those guard standing there" Dominic pointed to the first two houses which was close to the dungeon on the left. "They have higher ranks than all the guards even these two douchbags". Joel snorted making one of the sleeping guard groan.

"Now do everything I say to you. There's no time to go back and plan for any escape. Cross the river and run into the woods like you're being chase by a lion though if you're being caught, your torture will be worse than that of a lion's". Dominic said while he surveyed the area for a good path.

"But I don't where to go and it looks like you're not coming with me when you know we are in this together" Joel sounded like he was almost about to have a breakdown. "And the body under the bed, who is going to ta,e care of it?" He finished.

"Don't worry about it, I will take care of it for you" Dominic gave Joel a reassuring smile and it brought back memories of his own father but he thought that was not the time for reminiscing.

"Why are you helping me?" Joel asked what he has been waiting for so long.

"I couldn't help my people before but I am not going to repeat it again so take this very chance you've got and hold on to it." Dominic looked at the guards with remors and turn back to Joel. He smiled to him again and said. "Now go"

"I'm not leaving until you come along. We are in this together " Joel stubbornly crossed his arms and pouted at Dominic.

"It is now or never boy. You stay with me or you run"

Before Joel could react, Dominic shouted "HE IS RUNNING AWAY...GUARD! GUARD!"

Joel couldn't get the time to register what was happening as he sprinted. The guards became alert and they tried to take in what was going on.

"Over there" One guard pointed at Joel as he run behind houses after houses. Though it was dark, Joel still managed to outrun the guard as they also followed him.

'Don't blow it up, don't blow it up. This is your last chance of getting out of this so called whatever place' Joel could hear an inner voice shouting at him. After passing by every house, Joel could feel his legs giving up as the guard were also closing in on him. He looked straight and to his relief he saw the river closing by, just then he felt a sharp pain in his arm. He looked and to his horror, it was an arrow.

Arrows upon arrows were being shot at Joel but he still maintained his stamina until he got to the river and jumped into it. Just when he thought he was free, the guards also jumped into the river and swam after him.

"Why won't they just go away?" Joel asked himself and kept on swimming with his one arm. As he kept on swimming he heard a sound coming from the left side of the river and he turned to look. To his disbelief, he saw massive tides rushing toward him. He looked behind him and saw the guard all looking at the tides im horror. He took that as an advantage and kept swimming.

"Look, he's getting away" One guard said and they all followed after Joel.

Joel got to the bank of the river and got out. He continued running without looking back. He run i to the woods like Dominic had instructed. As he was still running, he heard foot steps and realised the guards were still running after him but he started feeling dizzy and he all of a sudden run into a tree and bumped his head. The last thing Joel saw was a a peaceful forest and he blacked out.
