"What happened to Nikola?" the queen asked her daughter. Riley bit the inside of her cheek and shrugged. Her mother lifted her chin so that they were eye to eye, but the princess struggled to meet her eyes.
Riley knew that her mother was only thinking about her future but her insistence on sticking her nose in her marriage, not that she was even sure she wanted it, was getting on her nerves. She was already frustrated with herself for failing to please her wife, she didn't need someone else, much less her own mother, to rub her nose in her failure as a woman and fiancé as well. The whole situation was giving her a headache.
