Riley POV
I am rooted in my spot as the frowning pixie walks up to me and asks me what is wrong. I can't tell her can. I can't possibly explain to her why and how I planned to betray my own pride, my father… Nix – for their own good mind you – but betray none the less.
That's something perhaps I won't have to explain because Nix appears to already know what's going on.
Did Melissa tell her?
Did she expose my plan to win favour with her wife?
I step out of my thoughts just in time to see the mouthy nymph take a timid step away from me.
"What is it?" I growl at her.
She blinks and then purses her lips in thought.
"Y'u need to talk to me, Riley," she says.
My immediate reaction is to roll my eyes – first at her tone than at the fact that she seems to believe we're on a first-name basis. Her foolishness clearly has no bounds – oh my, what the ancestors warn about saltwater is true. It drains the brain of its sense.
