"Hey, Katie!" Ethan yelled, as he jogged over to her over his friends lawn, chestnut hair sweaty from the Florida sun. "Hey Ethan, whats up?" she said, as he stopped in front of her, catching his breath. "theres some new neighbors next to my place, from the looks of it its a kid, our age and their dad."Katie just sat there, with a bored expression on her face.
Ethan and Katie have been friends since forever, well, ever since her and her family of four moved to the Miami neighborhood when the two were younger. Actually, Ethan used to live in his new neighbors house, until his family was able to buy the house just right next to it. For some reason, people have always come and gone from that house so quickly, Ethan had no idea why.
"Why are you so excited?" Katie chuckled.
Ethan smirked, "Think of it this way. New. Friend. We've got all summer to make them our friend and have a blast with them."
Through the years, Ethan has had a few really close friends that have stuck with him.
There was Alex; he was 22, and the two became friends through Ethan's parents hiring him to watch over Ethan and his smaller siblings when they were out. And with Ethan being the oldest sibling still living at home, they kind of clicked as friends, even with the bleach blonde haired surfer boy being about 5 years older.
Then there was Liam. Liam and Ethan met in second grade when Ethan accidentally spilled paint all over him in art class. That started a huge paint war amongst the kids in the class, and the boys ended up getting in trouble together, and have been pretty much best friends ever since. Liam also became a bit useful over the years, one, he could cook, and he was amazing. And two, his parents were almost never home, so, the two properties that his parents owned were the perfect hang out and party spot. At least Ethan and Matt thought it was useful.
And of course there was Matt and his year-younger sister Katie. Matt and Ethan instantaneously became friends when they met in the eighth grade. One day, the boysdecided that it would be a great idea to go skateboarding down the steepest hill in their part of town, which ended in Matt hitting the curb and breaking his arm on the concreate sidewalk. Ethan practically had to drag him to the hospital, where they called Matts parents. They showed up, scolded the two, and left Ethan to watch Matts little sister, Katie, in the lobby while they talked to the doctors. Katie was only a year younger, and the kids took a liking to each other, Ethan became just like another brother to her.
They had the perfect little friend group, the one with the car, the friendly one, the dorky ones, and the goofy one.
"Yeah, yeah, I guess you're right, but why do you keep saying them, is it a boy or a girl?"
Ethans face went kind of blank. To be honest, he didn't know. "Really all I saw was a mop of black hair and pale skin, so their definitely from out of state, and I just never got a good look at their face. So yeah, I honestly have no idea."
Katie looked at her friend with a somewhat disappointed look, "Sigh, we'll figure it out. Hey isn't it Sunday? Dude you gotta get home for dinner or your Ma will be pissed." Ethan's eyes went wide. "Shit! Thank you for reminding me,"he said as he looked at his watch, it read 5:17 PM, "Tell the other carrot head I said hey!" he yelled as he started to jog back home."Yea for sure string bean!" the 15-year-old tomboy yelled back, watching her friend stumble a bit.
Even though it was still gonna be sunny out for another couple of hours because of the summer time changes, Ethans Ma always wanted all of her children home for Sunday dinner. It was just tradition. When Ethan stepped through his front door, the smell of Hispanic food filled his nostrils. His Ma was an amazing cook, and he himself took pride in it.
"Hola mama!" he half yelled through the house. He got home just in time to take a quick shower. As he got out of the 5 minute rinse off, he heard some unfamiliar voices. Ethan threw on a blue tee-shirt and some sweats, and came out into the living room, still with dripping wet hair. The first thing he was was a man about an inch or two shorter than himself, who looked to be about his mas age. When the man noticed Ethan, he walked up to him and shook Ethans wrinkled hand, "Hello," the man said with a warm smile,"Im your new neighbor from next door. My names Chad McClain, and this is my son, Ryan."
