Chapter 20 - Chapter 19 - search for hope

After a few minutes, Yuji and Elizabeth went back to the hall after checking the two apartments in the first floor.

"No luck on finding an amplifier," said Yuji in a disappointed tone.

"But we got multiple other stuffs" said Elizabeth.

Elizabeth held a small shoulder bag filled with things that they considered to be useful.

"I got a new wrap in my arm, since the last one came off" said Yuji, "though I think these newspapers are too thin..." he said as he raised his left arm, wrapped with multiple news papers.

"So are we good to go?" said Elizabeth.

"To the upper floors?" Yuji asked.

"No" Elizabeth replied, "I meant outside,".

"But the amplifier..." said Yuji in a worried tone.

"It's ok" said Elizabeth, "maybe we could find some on the way, that way we can keep on moving,".

"you have a point," Yuji said.

Elizabeth turned around and started making her way towards the entrance door.

"Though, I probably won't make it... atleast you will... That would be enough for me..." Elizabeth whispered to herself.

And so they went in front of the entrance door of the apartment building.

"I wonder if that akuma earlier is still here?" said Elizabeth.

"Hand me the mirror shard we picked up earlier" Yuji said.

Elizabeth picked up the shard from her bag, "what are you going to do?" said Elizabeth as she gave the shard to Yuji.

Yuji slightly opened the door, "this..." he said as he placed the mirror by the slightly open door, making him see the reflection of the outside.

"It's clear..." said Yuji.

"I see..." said Elizabeth as they both stepped outside.

"Hey Yuji..." said Elizabeth, "can you tell me the rest of your story...?".

"I could... but we should be focused right now..." Yuji replied.

"I know... but can you tell me just little by little?" said Elizabeth.

"She's... being stubborn about this" Yuji thought as he looked away, "then how about this..." he said, "after we make it out of here... I'll tell you everything you want to know... over dinner or lunch if you want too...".

"Huh...?" Elizabeth said, as she was dumbfounded from Yuji's words.

"What I mean is!" Yuji turned around being bashfull, "After this... I'll treat you, as thanks for saving me...".

Elizabeth let out a small laugh.

Yuji turned around facing Elizabeth, being bashfull.

Elizabeth looked directly at Yuji, "Sure!" she said with joyful voice, as she showed a big smile.

Seeing Elizabeths smile, Yuji regained his composure, "then lets hurry and get out of here..." he said as he let out a small smile.

And so they began to carefully make their way to the center.

"Say... can you still tell me bit by bit on what happened during those times at City E?" Elizabeth asked, "maybe it can give me a clue on what I should do to be more of help.".

"I see..." Yuji replied, "Let's check that building first" Yuji pointed at the building which seemed like a grocery store, "I'll tell you while we're searching the inside.".

As they went closer to the grocery store, they noticed that it had a large shattered glass window.

When they reached the front of the store they saw the Akuma with large legs, that they spotted earlier, laying down on the floor with a knife stuck on it's forehead.

"This... was the Akuma we saw earlier," Elizabeth said.

"It seems that someone got rid of it while we were hiding inside the apartment building," Yuji said, "could it have been Erina's group...?".

Elizabeth faced Yuji with a guilty face.

"If we faced that Akuma head on, we would have died quickly, and all they would have to see is our dead bodies," said Yuji, "so we didn't do anything wrong.".

Elizabeth nodded, "Then... should we start searching?" said Elizabeth as she started walking inside the store.

"Wait!" Yuji said as he grabbed Elizabeth by the shoulder, "I'll tell you something we did in a time like this.".

Elizabeth nodded ready to listen.

Yuji closed the door behind them, as he took a deep breath.

"HELLO!" Yuji shouted, his voice echoes across the whole store.

Elizabeth, with a shivering head and body and a confused face, she slowly looked at Yuji thinking "WHAT THE HECK!!??" "He just shouted hello didn't he!?? In this kind of situation, he shouted hello!??".

Yuji was looking carefully at the area, and after a few seconds Yuji let out a sigh of relief, as he looked at Elizabeth with a smile.

"HE'S SMILING!?" Elizabeth thought, "wait... now that I think of it, nothing is coming after us..." she reclaims her composure.

"So you noticed?" said Yuji.

Elizabeth tilted her head, being confused.

"When I was in city E, me and the girl I was with used this technique to see if there are any akumas on a certain area" Yuji said, "we would always stand close to the door and shout something that will echoe across the room, with that we will know if there are any akumas around the area or not.".

"I see..." Elizabeth said, "if there are akumas in the area, then they would likely come after you, and if none showed up then that means the coast is clear right?".

"Yep" Yuji replied, "usually even if there is just one Akuma inside, we lure it out and escape, but sometimes out of desperation, if it's just a single Akuma, sometimes even two, we fight it, and of course the ones we fought were all D or C class.

"Did you two ever encountered a high class during those times?" Elizabeth asked.

Yuji's face suddenly scowled as he held his head, as if it was in pain, "I..." he said as he gripped his hair.

"It's ok!" said Elizabeth, as she waves both of her hands at Yuji, "you don't have to force yourself right now" she said in a worried tone.

"Sorry..." Yuji said, "my doctor before did say this to me... that I shouldn't forcefully remember what had happened before... since a certain memory I have, might have caused me some sort of trauma.".

"Is that the reason you can't remember who you were with before?" Elizabeth asked.

"Probably..." Yuji said as he began walking towards the shelves inside the store, "anyway, let's start searching, the coast is clear so we should split up for a bit and search, but not too far away from each other.".

Elizabeth nodded as they both started looking for anything useful, they split a few meters apart, enough to see and respond when one of them calls.
