Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

Training with James, Victor and Charlie turned out to be more work than Ross expected. He finally understood why, Marcus had left these three in charge of training him. They were expect fighters. Especially Victor, who was faster than the other two. It had been two days since Marcus and the other two had left and they had been training day and night. Monique was never seen she was always in her room and she rarely came out. So it was huge shock to Ross when he saw her in his doorway three nights after the others had left. "Hey Jimmy, you got a minute?" "Umm, sure Monique what is it?" Monique looked at Ross questioningly before proceeding to take a seat on the bed. " Well, I know you and I haven't spoken since you arrived and I thought I should explain why that is." Ross switched of the Tv and turned to look at Monique " Umm, ok" Monique looked like she had a million things on her mind but did not know where to start. "Well first I thought I should start with my story. I was a just a young innocent girl when Charlie changed me. I had a bright future ahead of me. I was going to be married to a soldier and we were to have 6 kids, and all that other nonsense. My future husband was drafted into the war, the second world war that is. Pearl Harbour had just been bombed and I guess they wanted to show Japan and the world just how powerful they were, so anyway, Jimmy , my fiancé and I were separated for two and the weekend before he was supposed to come home, His unit was attack and all of them died. I was so heartbroken that I didn't know what to do. That's when Charlie found me at the bottom of the mountain all bruised." It looked like Monique was far away before she continued her story. "Well after Charlie changed I fell in love with his brother Vincent but our love was short lived before Vincent was killed by the Guard. All I really wanted to say Jimmy, is take this training, you might be the only hope we have of surviving this upcoming war." Ross l do look as confused as he had when Marcus had said the same thing to him before Marcus left. "Monique, why do you all believe that I stand a chance, I mean I am just a New born how can I stand against someone who is thousands of years old?" Monique looked at him as if he was missing something obvious. "Well Jimmy, it is the fact that you are a new born that makes us have faith in you , because our kind is at their strongest just after they have been made. With the right training, a new born is no match for an old vampire." With that she left the room and left Ross to his own thoughts.

After her talk with Jimmy, Monique became more social.. she did not just hide away in her room but rather started attending the training sessions. Once in a while she would contribute to the training session by providing any information she knew about the Guard. It seemed as if Ross had settled in well in to his new life and he rather enjoyed it. Of course there were aspects that he did not like, such as the lack of sleep and the fact that he could only survive on blood. The only thing that he did truly miss was his wife. It had been a month since he had been transformed and not a day passed by that he did not think of Nancy. Every night after training he would go out and just stand outside the his old house and watch how his wife continued her life without him. 'What is her name?" Marcus asked one night. "Nancy," Jimmy replied without looking back at Marcus. "Jimmy, the only way to heal is to move on." Jimmy finally turned around and looked angrily art Marcus " You think I haven't tried, Marcus, I have tried. Every night I come here and I tell myself that tonight will be the last. But every night I find myself back here. Every night I come here and think about the life tat she is going to liv
