Kennedy and Andrew, both siblings, have been playing on the playground. Their mother, Helen, had been reading the news on her phone until something caught her attention. "THREE DEAD DUE TO MYSTERIOUS DISEASE IN VIRGINIA" it read, in big, bold black letters. She clicked on the title, which led her to the full article.
"Three people have died due to a mysterious disease that was found in a farm in Virginia. Apparently, epidemiologists are currently investigating whether the death of a man is linked to the other deaths…" She read. Farms always had something cooked up in them. Whether it be bacteria or a virus, someday a pandemic would be caused by a farm. Or, it could be caused by mankind itself. Two virologists created a form of H5N1 to become extremely contagious. It was highly criticized by others saying it was "unsafe". As she was reading, she heard sirens wailing. Ambulances, she thought.
She looked up, seeing not just one, but four ambulances rushing down the street. What could that be? She thought. As another ambulance came, it's driving was erratic. It drove in zig-zags down the road, and BAM. The ambulance rolled over, and flipped, shards of glass flying into the air. The ambulance hit a blue BMW car, making it turn right onto the park. A cloud of dirt and dust rapidly grew. Andrew and Kennedy screamed, other children running away in fear. The ambulance hit a tree, stopping it. The windows were shattered, and it's door was crumpled. It's siren was distorted and damaged.
"What is that?" a man shouted. A crowd of adults ran to the ambulance which was flipped over on it's side. John had got out of the bathroom after hearing banging, which was the ambulance flipping on its side.
"Babe?" John asked. "I heard something… Oh." He said, noticing the ambulance on its side on the grassy fields. Kids on the apparatus stared at the wrecked vehicle.
"How did it crash?" John asked Helen.
"I don't know. The driver probably passed out."
"Drunk driving?"
"Why would an ambulance driver be drinking?"
Whimpering was heard inside of the ambulance. "Get em' out!" a woman shouted. A group of men busted open the door, revealing a man lying down on the wall. As soon as light entered the ambulance, he coughed frantically. Blood ran down his cheeks from his eyes, mouth, and nose. He was sobbing. They dragged him out, laying him down against a slanted pole. The man tried to say something, but his voice failed him.
"There's another person in there." a man said. As they peaked, they jerked back, horrified. A corpse was inside, it's head splattered by chunks of debris inside. Blood was splattered everywhere, along with pieces of blood. A puddle of blood poured out of the exit, flooding onto the green, wet grass. The driver was also on the wall. He didn't look just injured. He was entirely blue. Streaks of blood ran down his cheeks from his eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. What happened to him?
John and Helen rushed towards the crowd. People comforted the whimpering man who was bleeding from his own face. "Someone call 911!" a woman in a pink dress shouted. Her kids hugged her tightly.
"Mister, can you hear me? Are you in pain?" a man asked.
"Clearly he isn't going to respond to you, idiot. Look at him! He's literally bleeding everywhere!" another man shouted. The injured folk on the ground coughed, spewing blood onto the dirt-stained ambulance. Everyone backed up.
"Mommy, what happened to him?" Andrew asked Helen.
Helen looked at him, shielding Andrew's eyes from the sight. "I don't know honey, I don't know." she said. A few minutes later, another ambulance arrived along with two blue police vehicles.
"Can you folks explain to me what happened right here?" the officer asked.
"The ambulance… It started swerving, I don't know why. It crashed into another car, which made it roll here." a woman explained, combing her blonde hair. The officer looked at the dead body on the grass that was once fighting for it's life.
"...Why's he all blue though?"
