Song Meishi looked at her target. Ming Lee.
Ming Lee was a rich second generation girl. She was even the apple of her father's eye and had no other siblings. Well, official siblings anyway. She knew this and so she thought that everyone else had to too. Everyone should know how special and rich she is, so they can bow down in hopes of being her servant.
She was the type that those in the upper circle simply abhorred. She was arrogant, self-centered, scheming and snobbish, but even with such a bad personality her money was quite abundant, which made many of the poorer girls suck up to her. She was quite generous with her gifts too, which only made the girls with dreams of getting higher flock her sencelessly. Hoping to get her favour so that they can climb higher in life quickly rather than work hard for what they want. After all everyone loved convenient and easy without having to work hard.
With their attitude of reverence towards her, Ming Lee's temper only got worse and worse. She saw herself as the top of the world and that no one could stand up to her. The poorer people probably couldn't while the rich held her in disdain and so avoided her. No one really stood in her way for anything.
Song Meishi could see through her personality quite clearly. Many could, and avoided her because of this. Not that Ming Lee ever really seemed to care. Those who didn't revere her were just jealous of her.
Ming Lee sat at the head of the table, like a queen, offhandedly listening to the gossip from the girls around her while ordering food on the menu.
Song Meishi watched the conversation flow around her carefully before swooping in seamlessly. "Do you guys know Su Qingtang?"
The conversation is successfully steered in one move. "Su Qingtang? Ohh, I know her. Ive seen her with you before."
"Yeah," Someone else adds to the conversation. "She seems to have changed someone now that we are in our last year. She even started hanging out with that Wen… Wen something guy. I never remember his name."
"I know what you mean… She seems to have changed somewhat. I've even seen Rong Li speaking to her once out in the basketball court."
"Do you think he's interested in her-"
"NO!" Ming Lee abruptly butts into the conversation loudly. The conversation immediately halts.
Everyone knew that Ming Lee had a crush on Rong Li. Ming Lee hadn't ever explicitly said it, but everyone knew, and so to butter her up they had always made jokes about how they thought Rong Li liked her. The person who said that Rong Li liked Su Qingtang paled.
Although Ming Lee was rich, she had a massive inferiority complex. She tried to hide this and did so surprisingly well. Anyone with discerning eyes could tell, but only if one looked carefully. Her entourage didn't care for her as a person as opposed to a money-bag so of course they would overlook this fact. Ming Lee probably knew how they saw her as well, but for the company and feeling of superiority she ignored it.
Song Meishi was a social butterfly. She flitted from place to place and so she understood and knew a lot more than the ordinary person. She intended to use this to her advantage.
"Personally, I think you'd be more suited for Rong Li. While she's pretty outstanding, I think you'd suit him more." Song Meishi tried to 'reasssure' Ming Lee.
Seeing this doorway to escape awkwardness the girls jumped on it.
"Naturally, youd be more suited for Rong Li. You are amazing. Much more so than that Su Qingtang girl."
"Of course! Ming Lee is such a kind and wonderful person. Much more so than any Su Qingtang. Frankly I don't even think she's pretty."
"Pretty? Pei! Our Ming Lee far out classes her. Ming Lee is our school flower."
This was how entourages work. To get into the leaders good book they'd step on anyone's head. Song Meishi smiled as she watched the conversation go southward with scoldings towards Su Qingtang.
In truth these girls probably didn't mean a word they said but for the sake of sucking up they'd do anything.
"Rong Li and Su Qingtang? It must be all that seductress' plot. She knows she's inferior to Ming Lee so she resorted to underhanded tricks to blind Rong Li."
With her ego sufficiently stroked by that comment Ming Lee takes off her bracelet and hands it to the girl who made the comment. The bracelet was gaudy but it was obvious it was worth a lot. The girl excitedly said her thanks before quickly putting on the bracelet under the envy filled eyes of the others.
"Such a girl doesn't belong in our school. It's a blessing from the heavens that she's not in my class or Ming Lee's."
The conversation continued to spiral downwards and with a few prods it landed exactly where Song Meishi wanted.
"Is there any way we can let such trash stay in our school? Shouldn't we do something about it." This was just an offhanded comment, the owner probably didnt actually mean anything by it but to put down Su Qingtang, but Song Meishi saw it as a chance and took it.
"You can't! Doing something against her can get you in trouble. If you get caught you'd be seriously punished." Song Meishi interjected, as if she was genuinely concerned. "Even if you do get her to self-reflects and learns her place if Ming Lee selflessly teaches her. Our poor Ming Lee would be misunderstood."
"If we get caught." Ming Lee finally adds to the conversation again. "Teaching her a lesson is imperative, but I am not stupid enough to get caught. Even if I am what can they do. They should thank me for cleaning the society of scum."
Song Meishi gasps before trying to dissuade Ming Lee. Although she seemed frantic to stop them, Song Meishi was snickering on the inside.
She inwardly thanked Rong Li for his timely advice.
