I didn't get why Mace was so mad. He was the reason I was hugging Jackson at all. I really didn't get why I ran after him.
"Mace!" I yelled, a little out of breath. "Where are you going?"
"Out," he said. Sheesh.
"I can see that," I said. "Why? We're not done."
"I am," he said, getting into the car.
"Oh my God, Mace," I said holding his door open. "Is this about me calling you a whore because, in my defense, you did steal someone else's girlfriend."
"Do you really believe that?" he asked, I could hear the disbelief in his voice.
"Well yeah," he started closing his door. "Come on, Smith." He drove away.
I wanted to punch Mace in his stupid face. How dare he? I didn't ask him to steal someone else's girlfriend. And then beat them up.
I went back into the living room fuming with anger.
"Green?" it was Jackson. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" I asked, trying to stay as calm as possible.
"For making you and Mace fight," he said. What a peach.
"It's okay," I said.
"Should I tell everyone to leave?" he asked.
"Yes, please," I said.
He sent everyone out.
"I'll come back later," Gabby told me.
I nodded.
I was about to close the door, when I realised Jackson was still there. Weird.
"Hi," I said, wondering what he was still doing.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he said, walking closer.
"I'm fine, thanks," I said.
He walked until he was just centimeters away from me. He took my phone , which didn't have a password, from my hand and typed in something.
"Call me in case you need anything," he said.
"I won't," I said. "But thanks."
He left.
I checked the clock and realized it was only 10:00 a.m. It was going to be a long day.
~~~~~~~
Since the team exercise was a bust, I decided to get some work done. It turned out I didn't have any work to do. Being so on top of things and organized was really annoying sometimes.
So, I decided to do something I hadn't done in a while. I went to my mother's bakery.
I don't even know why I stopped going there. I guess I was so busy.
"Green?" I heard a familiar voice say. I turned my hard to see Jackson.
"Jackson? What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I work here," he said, smiling. "I've worked here for four months."
Wow. I hadn't noticed him.
"Why are you here?" he asked. I guessed he hadn't noticed me either.
"My mother owns the store," I said.
"Cool," he said.
I smiled. "I'm going to get an apron."
"What?" he said. "Didn't you say your mom owns the place?"
"Yup," I said. "Which is why I'm going to work for three hours and not get paid a dime."
He chuckled.
I smiled.
"I just need to go say hi to my mother first," I said.
I went to my mom to say hi to her and tell her that I was helping out. She was glad.
I really loved working at my mother's bakery. I didn't know why. I was a combination of everything I didn't like; fake smiling, pretending to care, letting rude people be rude. I think you get the point. I realize now that it was because I took a lot of work off the other workers' backs.
When Jackson was done with his shift, he tried to get me to go with him.
"Come on, Green. It'll be fun," he said.
"I don't think its a good idea," I said. "Besides, I don't know where we're going. And frankly, I don't trust you enough to go to an unknown location with you."
I could see he was a little hurt but, it was the truth and I hated lies.
"Fine," he said. "I'll tell you where we're going. Its the skate park." The what?
"Skate park?" I asked, really confused. "I didn't know we had a skate park. When did we get a skate park?"
"Calm down, Sherlock," Jackson said. "There's always been a skate park."
"Hm," I said. "I will accompany you to this skate park, not because I want to go with you, but because I would like to see it. And also figure out how I never knew about it."
I removed my apron, "Let's go."
~~~~~~~
When we got to the skate park, I was even more confused than I was before.
"This place is huge! How have I never noticed here before?" I exclaimed.
Jackson smiled, "Maybe, its because you tend to not notice things you don't care to see."
"Hm," I said, I could feel the wheels turning in my brain.
"Watch this," Jackson said.
He got on his skate board and did one of those air tricks which I had to admit was really cool.
"Whoa," I said.
"Now you try," he said.
"What?" I said, unsure of what I had just heard.
"Not what I did," he said. "Let's start with the basics."
"Okay," I said. For some weird reason I was feeling really open to try new things that evening.
He taught me how to balance myself on the skate board.
Just as I was about to get off Jackson let go of my body and the skate board moved up the ramp and I came crashing down.
Luckily, the skate park had a first aid team.
"She just sprained her wrist a little," a man said. "She should be okay in a week or two."
"Thank you," Jackson said to the man. He turned to me. "Green, I am so sorry." He sat down next to me.
I started laughing. Jackson looked so confused. For a little while I didn't even know why I was laughing. But, I figured it out.
"I'm sorry," I said, still laughing. "I've just hurt myself before. This is amazing."
At first Jackson looked a little confused, then he started laughing as well.
"You're different, Sherlock," he said. "But, I feel really bad. Its your right hand."
I hadn't even noticed. "Its okay," I said. " I'm ambidextrous."
"You're what?" Jackson asked, staring at me with the most confused expression I had ever seen.
I chuckled. "I'm both right handed and left handed."
"Oh," he said. "That's cool. But I still broke one of your arms."
"Okay," I said, thinking. "You can make it up to me by getting me a caramel apple." I pointed to the stand.
He laughed. "One caramel apple coming right up."
"Yay," I said, smiling.
He got me a caramel apple and we talked for who knows how long about things I can't even remember. All I do remember is the end of the conversation.
"So," Jackson said. "What's going on between you and Mace?"
"Nothing," I said.
"Really?" he asked.
"Really," I assured him.
"You're amazing, Green," he said in that low tone that I dreaded so much.
He started moving closer. I knew what he was about to do and I really wanted him to stop. The only problem was I didn't know how to make him stop without it being weird and ruining our friendship.
Just as his lips where about to touch mine, my phone vibrated. Talk about saved by the bell.
"Sorry," I said. "It might be my mother trying to check up on me."
"Okay," he said in a disappointed tone.
I checked my phone and it was Gabby.
Gabby: !!CODE GREEN!! Come to my place ASAP!!!!!
"What is it?" Jackson asked. He looked worried. I realized I had been staring at my phone with a puzzled expression.
That was my chance to get out of there.
"Its Gabby," I said. "I have to go."
"I'll drive you," he said.
I was about to tell him not to worry but, I realized there was no other way for me to get there.
Green: I'm on my way,Gabby.
~~~~~~~
When we got to Gabby's house, Jackson insisted on walking me inside the house.
"Green!" Gabby started. "I can't believe you forgot..." She stopped talking once she saw my arm. "Green, what happened?"
Before i could speak, Jackson came in. Gabby looked at me in a surprised manner.
"I should get going," Jackson said. "Bye Sherlock." He kissed me on the cheek. Before I could even react, he left.
Gabby's mouth was wide open. "Green!" She said. "You have to tell me what that was about."
"After you tell me what a code green is," I said.
"Mace's party is tonight and we don't have anything to wear," Gabby said.
"Are you kidding me?" I said, a little pissed off. "I'm not going to that."
"Come on, Green."
"No."
"Please."
"No."
"I'll never ask you for anything ever again."
"Yes you will," I said. "If you want you go so bad, go."
"I wasn't invited, you were. Please."
"Fine. I'll go," I said. "But I'm going to be a buzz kill the whole time."
"Thank you," Gabby said, hugging me. "Now you can tell me about Jackson."
Just then, my phone vibrated.
Jackson: I can't wait to see you tonight... We can finish what we started;-)
"For the love of Christ."
