At the break of dawn, something else starts breaking as well. It's the mom's water after nine months since the son's birthday. Another child was being born. By the shock of our main character, he was gonna have a younger sibling. This happy family seems to be getting bigger over time. Just for an occasion like this, he had made buckets of wood and wooden trays as well. The Dad was more prepared this time with the same doctor. The procedure went even more smoothly than the first. The two assistant nurses were keeping the main character busy in the meantime. The mom starts yelling saying "THE BABY'S COMING!!!!!!". The Dad getting nervous had to eventually step out of the way for the doctor to do the rest. Certain things just aren't for fathers. The Dad would eventually give up on trying too hard and would let the doctor do her thing to make sure the baby was delivered safely. Hours go by before the assistant nurses are brought to the room as well. Afterward, the main character finds out he now has a younger brother. Time continues to go by until four years pass.
The main character wakes up with his tattered shirt, pants, and sandals that his mother made for him. He throws his blanket off of him and gets off his bed. Jumping off the bed he stretches and yawns. The main character then walks to the bathroom to use it. After five minutes, he washes his hands and then heads to the living room. His father waves at him and says "Good morning sleepy bird! We were waiting on you." The son rubs his eyes and looks around for a chair with his messed-up hair. They pray before eating breakfast and the father starts to ask the main character a question. He says "I'll be working out in the fields this harvest. It'll take me a while to do it by myself. Do you wanna help your big ol' dad?"
He shakes his head while eating. After about an hour he goes out to help his Dad with his work. The father does the farming, carpentry, and gardening. Meanwhile, the son waters the plants, feeds the cattle, and fixes the fences that may have broken or been warned down in some areas. Four hours go by, and the father then tells the son that he'll check everything else himself and that he needs to go inside and rest for a while. The son goes inside and sits down feeling exhausted and sweating a lot from the heat. His mom hands him a bottle of water with only the center of the cup being frozen. As he sips from the cup, he feels the nice and cold water go down his throat. Leaving him feeling very satisfied and refreshed from his hard work.
A few hours go by and the main character's dad walks in the side sweating like a rainforest. The father tells the son "Go ahead and go outside and try to have fun with the rest of the kids in town." The son sighs and says "I don't like the kids in town." The father with an understanding yet frustrated expression says "You need to spend time with other kids your age. So you can have fun and enjoy your free time." The son looks down with a sad face saying "Yes sir." During the main character's off time, he goes into the forest and writes down what he learns from nature. Jotting down personal notes of the trees, animals, and overall environment in the forest. Even noticing that every tree looks slightly different in appearance. Each branch symbolizes the tree's age and difference in species. The leaves on the trees even appear to have many variations in shape and color.
All details like these get written down in his handmade notebook. Every page contains details about everything he sees, touches, and experiences himself. The different types of creatures that he's seen have a page by themselves. Some have the characteristics of humans like teeth and only eat trees. Some climb and glide mimicking the ability of flight. Some walk like slugs with no legs. Some eat berries and walk with eight legs similar to a spider. He's even seen flying fish of many variations. Some are similar to the size and shape of a climbing mouse. And even a weird cat head with legs running around. In their way, they seem to fit the environment although some people call them abominations. There's probably more since he hasn't been everywhere.
The curiosity ends when his dad calls him yelling "SUSUMU!! WHERE ARE YOU!?" in a raged manner. Chills and shivers go down his spine out of the fear of a son being scared of his dad being mad at him. The main character, also called Susumu, responds in a worrying tone "Coming Dad!!". He climbs down the tree he's in to go in the direction of his dad's voice. As Susumu leaves the forest, he wonders what's so dangerous about the forest. And why his parents told him to never go in it. After running to where his dad is. His dad asks "Where were you?" in a stern tone. Susumu in a shaky voice "Just walking around tryna get ideas on what to make looking around.". His father responds with a curious impression "Hmmmm... alright. At least you were safe and not hurt. Come on we gotta prepare the food for your baby brother." Susumu then responds with a somewhat sad tone "Alright".
They head to the house to eat dinner. As they go to prepare the food, some of the kids in town start walking towards them. Those kids say "Lookie here. The Kidlats are here walking inside because they're so scared of lightning." The father then says "Go back home kids" as they walk inside to prepare the food.
Hours go by and the family prepares for bed. Before heading to bed, Susumu asked his dad in a curious tone, "What's the name of the planet?". His dad replied, "It's called Genesis". Susumu and his father keep talking about all the things he wants to ask his dad as they look at the stars in the sky.
