Ren couldn't believe his luck. He died first of off. Then was reincarnated into a new world. But he was floating in the middle of the ocean. Then he was picked up by a group of pirates/slavers. But not as a slave. But as a guest. His luck couldn't pick a side. Good or bad. It seems fifty-fifty.
He spent three days on the ship it was full of different races. Some were prisoners other were just crew mates. There were even a few skeletons. But like. Living skeletons. There were even mushroom people.
This world was weird. Apparently there was magic here but he hadn't seen any. As he was walking around on the deck he remembered something. When Maxim was gripping Rens head a message screen popped up. Bolting back to his private quarters Ren shut the door. He sat on the bed.
"Hello?" He said out loud trying to talk to whatever made that message.
*ping* "Hello." A small box of text pops up.
With his jaw on the floor Ren asks. "What are you?"
*ping* "I am System. A gift to you should you choose to accept."
Now confused he asks. "Accept what? You?"
*ping* "Yes. Do you want me to be your System?"
Yes[_] No[_]
Not seeing a detriment to this Ren says "Yes."
*ping* "The host will now go through the bonding process. Is thins understood?"
"Yeah. I understand." Ren says.
*ping* "Beginning host bonding to System."
Ren gets a sudden headache that quickly grows worse. "What the fuck?" Is all he could say before he blacks out.
Waking up to the sounds of lots of yelling Ren opens his eyes to find that he is on the floor. And yet another text box fills his vision. As he stands he reads the box.
"Host bond to System complete. Host Ren Adams is a perfect match for System. Would the Host like a tutorial of Systems functions?"
Yes[_] No[_]
Looking questioningly at the text box Ren hesitantly says "Yes."
*ping* Another box of text appears. "In order to use System you only need to think the word or phrase. Here are the different functions you can use.
Crafting
Inventory
Brewing
Skills
Stats
Abilities
Map
Quests
Shop
Other Functions may appear later on as well."
"Ok. Um inventory." Ren says.
A screen of little boxes pops up one of them has a gift wrapped box. Tapping on it, it reads 'new arrival gift box'.
"Uhhh... Open?" Ren asks the box.
The box disappears and a few more boxes are filled. Now his inventory reads as follows:
Iron Sword
x5 Water Skins (filled)
x5 Rations
x5 Healing Potions
x5 Mana Potions
Leather Chest Piece
1 Platinum Coin
10 Gold Coins
45 Silver Coins
100 Copper Coins
"Awesome! Hey System. What can I store in the inventory?" Ren asks.
*ping* "The Host can store anything they want in the Inventory. Living things will likely die if put into the Inventory so it is not recommended."
"Huh. Well then." There's a knock at the door.
"Ren? We've docked. Come out. We've put together a little care package since Irkalla just brought ye here." Maxim says.
Opening the door Ren says "Ah thank you Maxim. For your kindness and help."
"Ha! Me, a slaver, is being called kind! That's rich." Maxim laughs as he walks up the wooden stairs to the deck of the ship. Ren closes his Inventory and walks out.
*ping* Another text box appears. "At the bottom of your view there are two bars. One is red. The other is blue. The red bar is your total health. The blue one is your total mana. You can check the numbers in the Skills menu. Whenever you see another red bar that mean the creature it is above is hostile towards you. At the top of your screen is your level."
Ren reads it then quickly closes the box and follows Maxim. As he steps on the deck the smells a city dock hitting. He could smell it all. Rotting fish, cooking fish, body odor and blood. As he walks up to Maxim he sees a chest sitting next to him.
"Come ere boy." Maxim says urging Ren forward. "They are gifts. It's more than any of us got when Irkalla dropped us ere. So we've got a selection of blades ye." Maxim pulls out a spear, an axe, a few swords, a great sword and a halberd.
"I'll take a couple swords. Just incase one breaks." Ren says. 'But really I can just sell them for more money.' He thinks to himself.
Maxim hands over two swords with sheaths. "Alright. Now fer the ranged weapons." Maxim pulls out a few bows with quivers of arrows, a couple of crossbows, then he pulls out two rifles and two pistols. "Now. These ere firearms are special. They don't need bullets. Only pebbles. The pebbles shot from this gun can tear through armor."
"I'll take the pistols." Ren says intrigued by them.
"Sorry lad. You only get one this time. These are rarities." Maxim says handing over a side holster and the pistol. "And now fer yer armor. We don't have much but we have padded leggings and a padded shirt ye can put under a set of chainmail."
"I'll take it!" Ren says realizing it's probably better than the gear he has in his inventory.
Maxim pulls out a bag. "The three armor pieces are in here. We also have a shield and a bit of money fer ye." Maxim passes the items off. "Last thing lad. Head to the Adventurers Guild. Tell them that Irkalla just dropped ye ere."
"Thank you Maxim." Ren says as he starts to depart the ship. Then he stops and turns around. "Where do I find the Adventurers Guild?"
"Hahaha! Yes ye need directions. Go straight. All main roads lead to the Guild. Cities were practically build around them." Maxim says laughing.
"Ok thanks!" Ren says then jumps off the ship. As he starts running he makes it off the docks and into the city walls. As he walks, he walks behind a man on a horse. The horse suddenly bucks and kicks Ren in the chest sending him flying. The man on the horse quickly dismounts and runs to Ren.
"Oh shit. Are you ok man?" The voice is younger. Opening his eyes Ren sees a person that is around his age.
As Ren gasps for air he manages to get a few words out. "No....why.......did.....it.....do........that?"
"You can't walk that close behind a horse. How do you not know that?" The boy asks.
"Second.....day....here." Ren gasps our once again.
"Even if it's your second day here in the city you should still know not to walk behind a horse." The man says and he helps Ren up.
Ren, with most of his air back, says. "No it's my second day in this world. I just got into the city off of a ship. I'm trying to find the Adventurers Guild."
"Oh..... Well.... Please excuse my rudness. If you want I can take you to the Guild. I'm going there myself you see." The man takes on a more proper tone then holds out his hand. "I am Gabriel TreVelli. My father is a Duke to the King."
"Ren Adams. And uh yeah. I'd like it if you took me to the Guild." Ren replies while shaking hands with Gabriel.
Gabriel then pulls something out sets it on the floor and says a word to fast for Ren to catch it and a horse grows from the object. "Here you can have this horse. They never need food or water so they are cheap once you've bought one. To summon and unsummon it you merely have to says its name."
"And what is it's name?" Ren asks.
"Shade." Gabriel says stroking the pure white horse.
"Huh. Ok. Well should we go now? It's getting dark and I need to find a place to sleep." Ren complains as he struggles to mount his horse.
Gabriel waits until Ren is able to get in the saddle. "Yes let's."
