"Please, Mom! Please!
I clung unto her making the most appealing look I ever. My eyes already red swollen without an ounce of strength for I had been crying the whole night.
"I can't make it, please, let me stay."
I uttered obvious of the fact that it was not going to make a change, all have already been preplanned by them without my consent. I will now be staying in Incheon.
My mom gently took me in her embrace, I could see her tear filled eyes and just as she was going to mutter something,
"Come in, Princess, we're late."
My father called while opening the backseat of the car for me. It was a complete thirty hour journey from my home to the Ulsan airport which was filled with nothing but silence, of course, it was normal for I was almost always on a silent mode my entire life. I only had Mong as my friend but she was also going to US for her further studies.
Great! now I'm all alone.
I recalled how my eighteenth birthday was ruined with the news of me going to Incheon. I don't understand why my parents are sending me off this far, I'm aware of my flaws but a dog can never be a cat! Their logic was beyond my galaxy of understanding.
I was scared of the reality waiting for me, my first ever journey alone, my aunt will be there to assist me but the pang of being away from home was too much for my little heart to carry . All my plans of staying together with them, including my acceptance into the nearest college was cancelled without a hint.....
Finally it was time for my departure, my mom gave me her precious necklace which I have seen her wearing for an eternity while my dad uttered, " trust us, Princess", and gave me the warmest hug of my life.
It almost took me an eternity to find my seat, some how I was also excited for my first ever journey and off to slumber I went as soon as I reach my window seat.
"Sarine! Is that you?"
I trembled, nervousness filled me, my eyes in sheer disbelief.....
"You knew I existed!"
I quickly shy away at the stupidity of my answer. Great! he must now think that I'm a fool...
OMG!! The coolest dude in school, literally, "The Kim" knew my name! It's something I couldn't digest....
"May I?"
He asked as he sat next next to me, giving me a soft flirtatious smile which all the girls in the school died for.
"National University?"
I nodded in agreement.
"Engineering?"
I nodded again, "Twinning"
He gave me a confused look then, later nodded in agreement.
The whole trip went in that smooth flow, I was now slowing trying to open my shell, but never in my wildest dream thought that it would be him...destiny indeed is a player, there were just so many similarities, a click. It was surely the beginning of a new life in a new world.
"I will surely be a new me, trust me , dad!"(I promised myself)
The college was better and bigger than I could ever imagine with enormous people. I clenched unto my bag motionless.
"Sarine, our new reality let's go discover it."
Kim said as he helped with my stuff...After a few steps I could see students busy registering themselves in various clubs. I motioned Kim to go as we passed the basketball club, he gestured a thank you and saying "bye" he signed off.
I spaced out again then a pretty girl with curly black hair, in a cute pink dress, crashed and hurriedly started to pick up the things that had fallen off her glamorous sling bag. I knelt down and started to help her....
"Sorry, I was in a hurry..
Hi! I'm Ara first year Engineering."
I smiled back.
"Sarine, first year Engineering."
"Oh! No... I'm late..
Come along!"
She held my hand in an impulse, without waiting for a response and then started running till we reach the painting club. I smiled in disbelief for this was where my heart longed. The enrollment was quick as lighting because there was only a handful of us. Many people had gathered round and I could hear the cheers from afar again my super active friend, Ara, once again pulled me through the crowds to the front. I could now hear the most melodious emotional voice. I touched my necklace from earlier, feeling homesick, without knowing that it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life...
