Chapter 1 - 'Shift'

"Miss Everest Halesgreen. I was sent here t-" Slowly sliding out of bed making the comforter creep to the floor. "Call me Ev." My eyes focusing on her name tag which I had to blink a couple times for my eyes to adjust to the light. It read 'Amanda' smiling I looked up at the new "maid?" "I am deeply sorry. Miss Ev you're parents sent me up here to get you." Leaping towards my closet and slipping into shorts and a shirt. Running out the door with just a single wave towards Amanda. I can't believe it todays the day. I was turning 16 in 2 days which means my wolf would be able to shift. My wolfs name is Evergreen. Wow a huge coincident Everest and Evergreen. Anyway I hoped she would be a strong big wolf like daddies. Mommy had a smaller wolf, but she used it to her advantage she was fast and both of them have never been beaten. There are different colors/sizes of wolves which indicate what their role is in the pack. You are a pup till 10 and after you do school till 16 then there's a huge celebration to welcome the new member's. My birthday was luckily by the celebration day so I would be welcomed quickly. My mom always told me about white and black wolves, they indicated power. Other colors like Brown's, Red's and Blond's were powerful but not the most. Daddy was a dark brown which meant he was the strongest of the brown wolves. Mommy was the lightest shade of the Blond wolves so she was the most powerful among them. Light grey wolves were a thing and often were treated like white wolves. After all they are the closest thing. But it was unfair. Light greys often pretended they were white. Then their excuse was "Just a few shades darker." It was annoying but life went on. Dark grey wolves would pretend they were black to and same applies. Lastly Red wolves looked a lot like foxes. They were quick and sly often getting themselves into trouble. Dark red was the strongest of them. Browns tended to be alphas, Blonds tended to be Luna's, Reds tended to be Betas and the greys would just be an Omega. No special name nor role, so they rarely were warrior's or hunters. Some females no matter the color would be given the power of healing, and if you are wondering about Delta's well they were any color as well. Can't believe I didn't mention what the Black and White wolf places were. They were royalty with a single mark on their body showing it. Some couldn't handle the responsibility so they became rogue. Becoming one was like one out of a thousand. I never understood why they quit they were super rare and we needed a ruler. I felt my wolf walked back and forth inside my head howling. Maybe its just because she wants out after all todays our birthday. I shrugged and before I knew it fell down the stairs. So that's what she meant ouch. I closed my eyes bracing myself for the fall but felt nothing. Slowly opening then making sure I wasn't dead. A pair of arms held me in place. I didn't bother to look up at my savior because when I looked at the time I was late. "Thank you kind sir!" Yelling back as I ran to the garden. I pretty sure the whole building heard me but I didn't care I was late. Running down a couple halls. Left, Left, Right, Forward. I was finally there panting I looked up to see my mother and father in their wolf forms staring at me. They shifted back and I turned my gaze. When I looked back mom was in a large shirt and shorts while father had a shirt and jeans. I chuckled in my head imaging what they were thinking and it was priceless. "Everest todays the day sweetheart. We are going to teach you how to shift. It may hurt because it's you're first time but after it will be fine. Ok?" My mother sweet voice made me feel calmer and my panting died down. "Their are two ways of shifting. One is to feel a strong emotion or memory and boom shifted. Another is just clearing your mind. Then you will see yourself as you're wolf. The emotion/memory thing may make you're wolf take the wheel so be careful. Ok let's see this-" I turned to see what father suddenly stopped for and realised the entire pack was here for the celebration. The adults told their kids to play and went to set up. They ran to meet up with their friends. While I grabbed my hidden sketchbook between the bushes and got to work. When I looked up it was about mid day and everything was set up. Shoving my book inside the bushes yet again and running rushed to sit front row. Their were about 20 of them and they had to make a row, facing their parents in worn out clothes so that when they shifted they didn't shred nice ones. Mother and father spoke a few words welcoming everyone and saying thank you for coming and other stuff. One by one the teens walked about 10 steps forward and following the instructions given to shift. Just hearing their bones crack and then form and their pained scream made me shiver with fear. The first was a girl and she was a chestnut brown shade wolf. Her hip shown with the mark of a healer so her role was easy. The next was another female a light grey which meant she was Omega. On and on they went i eventually just took notes of their roles. 'Healer, Omega, Healer, ect.' Healer was the most common special role. Otherwise most of them were just part of the pack. Like I said earlier the darkest or lightest would have a special role but middle and so on were regular wolves. Our pack was the largest and strongest in the world. We had over 200 areas of area just for houses and the rest we had towns and a huge park that spread over 100 areas with a football field, Tennis court, Baseball field, and so on. To the humans we were a place called Brazil but to use it was Silver Moon. We had many neighboring packs but we kept the peace. Leaving them alone.

------------------------------------------------

It was now my birthday and I got into pretty much the same outfit as normally do when training. A shirt and shorts. Today is the day! Today is the day! Yay! I may have got to excited because I jumped of my balcony. To be honest I hadn't even realised i got out their. But I was fine and landed on my feet. I lived on the fourth story so it was like squats I guess. Running towards the garden and stopping when the sound of screaming came to my ears. Wondering around I saw that same girl at the celebration. Light grey wolf... I understood why they were Omegas they were greedy and no respect. Storming over to the girl and standing infront of her only inches away. I felt the same healer girl behind me cowering. I was fuming with anger. "Aw the little pup came to protect her pet? How sad I was actually having fun." She pouted and I wanted to slap her so bad but my wolf growled. 'If you do that y'all will fight and I don't know if I can help.' " I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience but I will not move an inch till you learn respect before it gets out of hand. Now before you do anything stupid I suggest you take a walk and when I mean walk I mean go to the outskirts of the pack where you belong. Omega." I couldn't help but smirk. As I knew how I affected her my words stung like fire, I was not the only one angry. "You chose the wrong day to put on that brave act. You are still a pup." Her bones cracked and started to reform her light grey wolf was now infront of me. The girl behind me ran and I hoped it was for help. 'Okay girl focus. I know you can't keep your mind off of what's happening so their is no way to shift that way.' The light grey wolf started to circle me I felt like a helpless bunny. She was getting ready to pounce and I heard my wolf scream 'Shift' my mind stopped going a million a minute and time slowed. The wolf only inches away from biting me. I felt my bones cracking and wanted to scream from the pain. Moving to the side to dodge this crazy wolf. We kept attacking each other till the large park which we now stand on. Everyone beginning to crowd the area taking their seats and I realised we were in the arena. 'Damn' I heard my wolf say which made me chuckle a bit. I jumped at the grey creature and tore of skin of the shoulder blade. Her blood tasted foul. Growling she covered up the whine trying to escape her when she moved. Her once blue eyes turned to a black, and I knew her wolf was in control. Her whine died and her growl becoming intense and I felt everyone's shock everyone's worry everything. A couple were terribly worried and that's probably her family. It seemed to go on for hours but really it was only about 20 minutes and she was taken away to the hospital. Her whole body bleeding and she had a minor concussion. I didn't mean to hurt her that bad but she wouldn't stop. While she had all that all I had was a scratch across my snout. Everyone's eyes widened in shock when I turned back to my human form. My parents ran to my with a jacket in hand covering my bare body from the eyes of the people. "You're- You're a ***** ****"

Dun Dun Dun. Next chapter shall the truth be discovered. What do you think she'll be. A white wolf? Black wolf? Red wolf? Brown Wolf? Blonde wolf? Or crossbreed?

You amazing humans pick... for what she is impacts the story. Oh I almost forgot the next chapter will probably be just as long then it will die down to about 1000 words. Thank You for reading. πŸ˜„ Have an amazing day!
